Lupaia

Lupaia is located in the breathtakingly beautiful southern Tuscan countryside outside of Montepulciano. It is close to many wonderful towns - Montepulciano, Pienza and Cortona, but also smaller villages that are fun to spontaneously explore. The staff could not have been more lovely and accommodating, from the front desk/concierge to the wait staff and housekeeping staff. The breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed dinner on site two or our three nights. The menu was different each night, and delicious, making use of ingredients produced on site or very nearby. The wine list, both by the glass and by the bottle, was also very well chosen. We enjoyed trying different wines from the various Tuscan winemaking regions. We appreciated this on-site dinner option, as one does not want to drive far on the picturesque but narrow and twisty rural roads after dark (or after a couple of glasses of wine!). Our room, Nido, classified as a junior suite, was spacious and comfortable. The views from the property are gorgeous in every direction. And we loved having a pool to come back to in the hot hot afternoons.

Our room, Nido, while very spacious and comfortable, was I believe the only room without its own terrace. There may have been others, but we didn't see them. There are many public spaces for guests, but on two of the three evenings we were there, there was a (small, discrete) wedding in the large common outdoor space, which also happened to be the only shady, breezy outdoor space on very hot evenings. Not wanting to disturb the nuptials, we unsuccessfully sought out alternatives. We would have liked to have our own private space to enjoy the evening. I chose our room, and it was exceptionally hot when we were there, but after staying at Lupaia I would recommend booking a room with private outdoor space.

Lupaia truly exceeded all our expectations. We had a dream stay. I highly recommend it.

It's hard to imagine you can call staying at a property with the nightly rates that are being charged here as good value, but amazingly it is. This is by far the best property I have ever had the joy of staying at, the attention to detail is second to none. All of the staff are amazing and make the stay feel like you're part of a family, you can spend all day just wandering around the grounds there are so many little details to find and the pool is to die for. The nightly dinners are some of the best you'll ever have, and the breakfast is a whole other level. Rooms are immaculate, feel like the level of luxury you'd expect for the price, but manages to feel really homely and not souless like some higher end properties can often become. Only bad thing I can say is that we spent 3 weeks in Italy after this stay and it ruined the rest of the trip for us because nothing can compare to this property. We stayed at other villas in Tuscany with similar ratings/price tags but Lupaia just has something else that the others can't replicate.

Truly the best hotel experience. Wish we stayed longer.
