I had a really unpleasant experience here. The woman checking me in was rude and dismissive from the outset. My wallet had been stolen, so I didn’t have my bank card with me, but I had stayed the previous night without any issue. Rather than trying to help, she told me I couldn’t stay and dealt with everything in an unnecessarily slow and hostile manner. When I asked to see a menu, she pushed it across the desk and it fell onto the floor. Her manager was not much better. Although he ultimately allowed me to stay, he was abrupt and unfriendly throughout the interaction. The atmosphere became even worse later when I saw him being extremely rude to another customer who complained about his ale, even swearing at him in front of other guests as he left the bar. The whole place felt tense and unwelcoming. The pizza was good, but the chicken salad I had on another evening was tiny, poor quality, and very disappointing.

Breakfast was fine but it’s not difficult to provide English breakfast Room was OK but it’s a route march between it and the restaurant. Thank goodness it didn’t rain!

Dinner was appalling. We used the main diner on the first night and the bar meal on the second night. I can’t remember what was actually served but not memorable. Nothing like Travel advisor report. If the elderly party had not been tired we’d have gone to the Highlands Inn known to me as I have relatives living in Uckfield
