Sossusvlei Lodge

We arrived at the Sossusvlei Lodge as part of a tour group. Accommodations are set up like a village of small lodge units scattered along the desert property. Each had a covered patio with chairs, nice to use during evenings or cooler mornings. Our unit was furnished with double beds, a couch, a coffee table, a large desk with bench, a refrigerator, and an open wardrobe with shelves plus a safe. Air conditioning was good enough to keep the main room cool, but struggled when the bathroom door was open. The bathroom did tend to heat up during the day. Tip: Keep the bathroom door closed when cooling down the main room. The bathroom was good sized with a bathtub, double sinks, large shower, and toilet. The units provided a comfortable spot to relax after excursions out in the Sossusvlei desert. There is a nice bar with an upstairs sundowner deck to enjoy the sunsets or sit under covered sun chairs during the day. Attached to the sundowner deck is an observation tower to climb for even better views of the surrounding desert or the evening sky. Behind the bar is a small pool in a grassy area surrounded by covered sun chairs and a shaded beer garden under an acacia tree. Across from the bar is the restaurant area, and a large outdoor terrace mainly used during the cooler parts of the day for breakfast and evening dining. Meals were served buffet style with a wide selection of dishes. One could choose from chicken or African meats like kudu and springbok or local African fishes like hake and kingklip. The lodge also schedules activities and the group enjoyed both a scenic flight over the Sossusvlei dunes and a sundowner/desert drive. Service at the lodge was good and attentive throughout our stay. Overall a great stay in the desert at the Sossusvlei Lodge.

Parfait

This was an excellent lodge with a wonderful adventure center that enabled us to enjoy our stay to the fullest extent. Also, the food was delicious!

Bungalow confortable avec petite terrasse. Lodge bien situé à l'entrée du parc de Sossusvlei. Petit-déjeuner pouvant être pris assez tôt pour pouvoir partir à l'aube dans les dunes. Les campeurs ou autres personnes ne bénéficiant pas de repas dans leur lodge peuvent venir prendre le repas du soir. Sous forme de buffet bien fourni avec braai pour la cuisson des différentes viandes. De ce fait ambiance moins intime vu la forte fréquentation. La journée, on peut parfois y apercevoir des springbok, autruches ....

En lodge för det priset, då förväntar man sig top notch! Söndriga poolhanddukar, ingen service vid poolen, medioker kvällsbuffe. Hade inte haft några åsikter om man checkat in på ett 3 stjärnor, men detta- nej! Välj annat hotell

Views of the desert

Severe issues with this hotel that claims to be high-end. Critical AC failure in our room went unresolved despite multiple requests, making the stay extremely uncomfortable. Having working AC is absolutely essential in a desert lodge, and they failed on that front. Furthermore they were unwilling and reluctant to resolve the issue. Reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful throughout our stay. Severely limited vegetarian dining options, with kitchen unwilling to accommodate dietary requirements despite prior communication. The reception staff flatly said that the chef cannot make any dishes specific to our vegetarian requirement. Given the premium pricing, the basic service failures and poor staff attitude make this hotel impossible to recommend. It's clear that the staff attitude comes from the top - with management unwilling to take on any feedback. This stay came close to ruining our Namibia trip.

We stayed two nights at Sossuvlei Lodge - as it is a perfect jumping off point into the national park. This location worked well for their organised morning tour (which eas good) and a self-guided trip to Sesriem Canyon. The lodge is larger and more busy than many other in Namibia (because of the location) so be prepared for a lot of people and Western style busy dinner buffet. The lodge is unbounded to the desert which is nice for seeing Oryx come wandering nearby. Our room was large, but the bathroom oddly hot with a strange smell. Overall, the place was what we wanted so we we're pleased with our stay.

I had a wonderful time! The flats are wonderful and have everything you need; the food (buffet) is fantastic; the surroundings are beautiful; and there are all kinds of amenities, like a pool. But above all, the service for organising activities is incredible - the lady, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was helpful and friendly via email and this continued on site. (I have a silly habit of prioritising reviews where the experience was a bad one because I want to warn other people - but Sossusvlei Lodge was so, so nice that I just had to say so).

Overall: excellent property with perfect food choices. Needs to improve in unit: (a) toilet is smelly and (b) AC capacity is not enough.
