The Pines Inn

DO NOT STAY HERE! No one working in the hotel before 4. Waited an hour for someone to check us in. Finally someone showed up to work but he disappeared up stairs. Never saw him again. Called the phone number for help checking and the person was completely unhelpful. Said we just had to wait. Not accessible at all. You have to carry your bags up narrow stairs.

It's an old building, with old interiors as well. We already went knowing that, therefore with very low expectations. The experience was surprisingly positive. The location is so worth it. Since we planned most of our days outside, the hotel room was only for sleeping and showers. Everything was reasonably clean, there was no smells from the carpet or anything. Bed was comfortable and temperature was pleasant, with AC. The guy at reception was kind when giving our keys. There's no fridge or Microwave in the room, but there's water, coffee/tea, and a microwave in the main floor. Toileteries are included but simple, I'd recommend taking your own shampoo/conditioner with you. I'd go back in a summer circumstance.

When I arrived, nobody here for the checkin, just a key on the frontdesk with the number of the room. Then I went to my room with a bad smell that lingers throughout the hotel. Finally I try to enter in my room and a woman inside. Go back to the reception but nobody to help me... A young man arrives in shorts and slippers to try to give me another room without even apologizing... No elevator, even though I had 6 huge bags to carry. A horrible experience! I don’t even understand how it can be rated so well. Clearly, a hotel in abandonment.

The room was clean and basic. The wallpaper in the bathroom was pealing off the walls in Room 104 and the was no water pressure in sink. The tub pressure was awesome. The place needs updating, but there was construction going on in the floors above, so maybe soon it'll be better soon.

There was nobody working on site, no elevator, stairs are hard for old people. Toilet clogged and over flowed. The tv was too small. A window in the shower.

Our room had dirty towels and trash from the last people that stayed in our room, so I’m guessing our room was not cleaned at all but the bed had been made, clean sheets? We asked repeatedly for towels because there wasn’t any in our room, but we never received any. There was a trashcan just outside of our room that was never emptied the entire time we were there and it smelled very badly of rotting food from other others that had disposed of their leftovers. The trashcan had trash and food piled up on top of it, climbing up the wall and all around it on the floor. The last evening we stayed there our TV was not working, so I called on the phone to ask for assistance, but no one ever came to help us after being promised they would do so. There were two other incidents I could speak of, but I have said enough. We have never received such poor service at any place we have ever stayed on any vacation we have ever taken. I called to speak to someone after getting home in hopes of compensation because I couldn’t receive any while I was there but no one ever returned my phone call. Customer satisfaction is not valued at this establishment.

First place I have ever stayed where there was NOBODY at the front desk to greet you. They have an automated check-in process that requires you to take photos of your ID. I called the property while on my way to ask about early check-in and was told there would be a $35 charge. First time for that, too, but I was in no position to decline, given the very late check-in time of 4:00 and the fact that I was in town for an event that started before then. I was not pleased to arrive and still have to wait for a human to get a key for me, after having paid extra, and then finding that he was letting others check in just a few minutes later (still an hour early) without charging them $35. It’s a nice old hotel that looks like it used to be quite grand many years ago, but now it gives off a creepy Overlook Hotel (The Shining) vibe, especially with no people around. Needless to say, I don’t plan to return. At least I made it out alive.

Cleaner, quieter, less run-down and better staffed than anticipated - great sleep, affordable stay.

More reasonable price than most places to stay in Lake Placid (considering all i was looking for is a placeto sleep and shower). Comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom, comfortable (sun heated rooms to point i needed to open the window to cool it down. It's an older building needing some attention, but is acceptable for a place to crash.
