Location was fantastic and for our short trip was very convenient and a short drive from the train station. The gardens and hotel were kept very clean and tidy

We did have exceptionally hot weather but there is no air conditioning in the rooms. We had a small fan that didn’t do anything. We finally were given a proper desk top fan which helped a little. There are also no telephones in the rooms so any questions or requests you had to keep going downstairs.

Room was spacious and comfortable. Swimming pool was really nice considering the hot weather. Ambience in the hotel is lovely but hotel is a little dated in parts.

Sun shade on terrace broken , so lack of shade in the heat. Reception was a bit frosty at first.

The location is excellent. The room was large and the staff were attentive.

Unfortunately the decor is very dated and the room was not acceptable for a 4 star hotel. The carpet fastening strips were bare next to the door, the bathroom was not particularly clean, with mould in the shower and bugs crawling from underneath.(see photos) Also found a dead bug in the sink. There are no accessible plug sockets near the beds. The blind was ill fitted, on the velux window with spider webs across the window, too. The paint is flaking around the window. We raised our concerns in the morning as we were too tired when we got back from a wedding. A small refund was issued, but to charge the rates they are and the decor to be so dated as well as the issues in the room, it was a poor stay below our expectations . Overall a disappointing stay

I booked the hotel for myself and my friend for one night as we were competing in The Great North Swim and didn't want to travel on the day. Very comfortable room, very comfortable beds. Great choice of food at breakfast even though we didn't eat much as we were going to be swimming
