The White Swan Inn

Called in for hot lunch. Ordered the Whitby Haddock, chips and mushy peas and hamburger and salad. Not busy at all, and no wonder! Hamburger homemade and good, but the fish at £20 was much overpriced and very small (it must have lost weight on its travels from Whitby!). It was heavily battered to mask the small content of fish. The chips were so incipid and not really edible...needed to be fried again at least. The bill came with a 10% gratuity added automatically, which is unacceptible. Gratis means exactly what it says, to be given!! This is therefore a rip off when the total bill came to £56.10. First time to this place and won't return again to eat, when we regularly go to Pickering. Their loss. This place is a rip off for food

Freezing cold bedroom Nowhere comfortable and warm to sit downstairs. Small feeble smoky log fire kept going out .

Lovely breakfast and lovely rooms! Very comfortable beds. The walls are thin so can hear if people are being noisy however this is acknowledged in the guide book and asks guests to speak to staff if there is an issue. Room was very warm however staff were very helpful and quick to advise.

I loved this property! So charming and excellent attention to detail. Everything felt so luxurious! And the food, amazing! Will recommend to everyone
