"Great hotel"

8.0

I visited this hotel on a European trip, when I arrived the staff were very welcoming, the chef was the only person who spoke English and he was very friendly and spent a lot of time to explain the local area and the bast places to visit, the food both at dinner and at breakfast was very good, the only reason for 4 stars was the fact that the rooms are abit dated

"Very friendly staff and great breakfast. Rooms are a bit dated,"

8.0

I stayed in Hotel Ritschlay with four colleages for one night during an exploratory field research campaign in the nearby Beaufort - Reisdorf area in Luxembourg. Since we were out working in the field all day, all we needed was an affordable hotel nearby, with a good hearthy breakfast to get us started in the morning Hotel Ritschlay met these requirements very well. The proprietor was very friendly and the breakfast (included in the room price) was very good and extensive, especially for Northern European standards, with made-to-order eggs, an extensive choice of excellent bread and cereals. The atmosphere of the hotel was very rustic, 70's style German. Those fellow Europeans who know the television series Derrick know what I mean. Rooms and hotel were spotlessly clean, but the single rooms we had were quite basic: small, with a single bed, a wooden desk and chair and a small t.v. For us this was perfect, but if you're looking for space and modern styling, this might not be your place. Then again, if you like an authentic old-fashioned atmosphere and don't mind the smaller room size, it is very nice indeed and most definitely beats the inspirationless decoration of the normal chain hotels that I stay in too often on business trips.

"Great for hikers"

6.0

This hotel is ideally situated for hiking but it is a good half an hour drive to Trier. The hotel is adequate but really needs updating unless you embrace quirkiness. English is only spoken by the chef/maybe owner's son so unless he is around non German speaking guests will struggle. If you wish to settle your account with a credit card the hotel will charge a fee for this transaction. The hotel is up a steep hill and has fantastic views over the valley but it is somewhat dismal inside.

"nice hotel with good views"

8.0

This hotel, run by mother and son, is located in the hills (the roads are quite steep!), not near the river, just outside the village next to the youth hostel. The hotel hasn't been refurbished since the eighties or so, but the rooms are a good size, everything functions well, the owners are friendly and helpful and breakfast is good. We didn't try dinner but we heard from other visitors that it was good. We preferred to go to nearby Echternach (in Luxemburg). In the garden is a great terrace with wonderful views over the area. The small kiddy pool hasn't been used in years and is a little filthy but everything else in the garden is well preserved. The hotel is mainly used by hikers and the friendly owners like to give advice on where to go, what to see and can provide you with maps etc.

"Great Location for Hikers"

6.0

Had expected it to be closer to Luxembourg as it was listed at 4 km away....my error was to not specify Luxembourg City. Hotel was ok, WIFI did not work very well and the breakfast was fairly basic, a plate of meat and chees to share and no refills of coffee

"Wonderful Valley View"

8.0

The hotel sits high on a hill overlooking the town and valley below. The small, family owned and operated inn is clean and inviting. A wonderful breakfast buffet is included in the stay. We stayed during a heat wave and there is no A/C. Fans were not provided. Otherwise, a great place to rest one's feet!

"Lacking amenities, but friendly staff area"

6.0

We were on the third floor, with no lift or air conditioning. We were not even provided a fan and it was close to 90 degrees. The breakfast was excellent. It is owner-run, quaint, and in a beautiful area. But I think if I were to go again, I would spend a little more money and stay in Trier.

Good overnight stay on way to Dijon. Hotel seems to cater to hikers from Belgium and Netherlands. Reasonable convenient to Trier. Good single item menu dinner. Good breakfast. Convenient free parking. Friendly staff.
