Hampton Inn Galax

We drove extra miles just to stay at what we expected to be a good hotel, but the experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived late at night, and the first thing that hit us upon entering was a strong, unpleasant odor—almost like mold (my husband thought it smelled like trash). The odor was so overpowering that it made me nauseous, and I avoided spending any time downstairs because of it. Our room did not have that odor thankfully. Although the staff was pleasant, the condition of the room was unacceptable. The walls were scuffed and dirty, and there was a visible crack in the corner of the ceiling and wall that looked like possible mold. Overall, this hotel was in terrible shape. I honestly don’t understand how Hilton puts its name on such a run-down property. The experience felt more like a low-end 1–2 star hotel, and frankly, I’ve had cleaner, better-smelling stays at places like Motel 8. I never leave reviews but I read reviews before I booked and none of them stated the actual truth. Also wanted to warn those who have breathing issues, allergies etc to avoid this establishment.

Room is spacious. Hotel is older and unfortunately smells musty.

Nice hotel, pleasant and helpful staff. I asked for extra pillows and got them easily and promptly. The breakfast was spot on and well managed. The only issue was the lobby smelled like wet soil, but other than that, our stay was as amazing as I expect from a Hilton/Hampton hotel.

Breakfast was great

The breakfast was delicious. We got early and had the pool all to ourselves. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was super friendly.
