Hilton Garden Inn Chesapeake/Suffolk

Hotel was nice and clean and staff was very nice. The room was lacking some amenities. There was only 1 coffee pod (tea and others). There were no extra blankets in the room.

Little pricy for its location and condition.

The fifth floor hallway was very dirty. First 2 rooms weren’t clean. Not adequately stock for towels, nor could we get more until day 2. Roach crawled across where I was making my coffee in the lobby. I have worked and regularly stay at HGI properties. I’m sure it’s staffing issue but clearly there is an overall cleanliness issue as well.

Ok....I don't often write reviews, but just felt I needed to for this hotel. It is disappointing to say, but I would highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay. For years this hotel was my go to when in Chesapeake. It was clean, nice, restaurant was good. They did have really small tv's in the room, but that was far from a deal killer because everything else was good. When Covid hit this hotel cratered. I still traveled a lot during that time, and it was surprising how quickly this hotel did a 180. I started staying anywhere but here. I came back a couple of years ago. They were beginning a renovation and I thought 'great'. Reno seemed to take a really long time, but I kept staying and overlooking the noise, trash, and inconvenience because I knew it would be worth it. I was wrong. Reno done, but this hotel is consistently one of the dirtiest hotels I have ever stayed at. The remodel was actually not very good either. I would bet that if no one told you it was just remodeled that you would never guess it. It feels cheap. It is dirty, People are friendly but check in is always very slow. This past time the room I booked was not ready (it was 5:30 pm). Had to come back down and get a new room (smaller than what I booked). I saw 4 other people come down while I was being assigned a new room (keys not working, issue with their room, and one guy took a picture of the hallway because it had so much trash in it). Time for me to move on for good now and kind of a bummer. I used to like this place, but they obviously don't care about the property. Hotels are too expensive to support a consistently poor product. There is a Marriott down the street. Have not stayed there yet, but hear it is much better. You should probably give that a shot.

The rooms were not prepared when we arrived. The staff seemed powerless to solve even the smallest problem. An example was that the tv remote would only increase volume, not decrease. I was told that the problem existed with many of the remotes. I finally tracked down housekeeping to swap my remote for one that worked. You get a contact high from the smell of weed on the first floor. All the rooms were non-smoking. Breakfast is not included as it is with most hotels, although you can purchase it for $10. All in all, it was a horrible experience.
