The Hotel was excellent in terms of facilities, service and location.

My room didn’t have a view and crows or jackdaws were nesting outside the window, and were noisy in the mornings

This hotel has a lot of potential for a nice break but it focusses on weddings, with other guests treated as 'extra revenue' only. There is no attention to the experience provided for non-wedding guests, despite a room costing circa £350 per night. There is no notification ahead of your booking to tell you there is a wedding every day and to advise facilities, such as the only bar, will be closed. You are just expected to turn up and see a sign that tells you that. The Orangery restaurant was worse than a Wetherspoons, with children crawling over the floor and groups of wedding guests standing, gathered around tables where non-wedding guests were expected to pay to eat their meals, whilst they were drinking and being extremely noisy. As the hotel manager told us, "we dont have to tell you our hotel business plan for wedding business"!! I've never met such a rude hotel manager who lacks any form of customer service training. When the bar finally did open at 7pm (an hour after reception had told us it would), the bar was filthy and the bar staff, on top of noisly restocking the bar, were openly and loudly moaning in front of non-wedding guests about the wedding party about some nonsense to do with presentation of room keys. A good hotel manager would have just apologised for any bad experience at the hotel when these points were brought to his attention, asking what could be done to improve our stay. No such luck at this place, with the manager going on about his hotel business plan (which was completely irrelevant). My husband was the one to ask about an option of eating in a quieter room, not the manager suggesting this. The free bottle of wine offered as an after thought, whilst a form of goodwill gesture, was too late to make up for the rude staff/manager behaviour and our overall experience of this place. We definitely would not stay again and do not recommend this place to anyone unless you are part of a wedding party.
