DoubleTree by Hilton El Paso Downtown

Horrible hotel. Carpet felt crunchy looks dirty and was just generally gross. Shower head low pressure and shot in every direction but at me. Fixtures on sink were loose so much so that you could pull it up. Pictures provided. Staff was okay. No breakfast bar provided instead there was a restaurant service was below par. Food less than average.

Clean, great location

As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I enjoy staying at different properties across the Hilton portfolio. This being my first ever visit to El Paso, I chose this Doubletree as it is centrally located downtown, near the streetcar, and walkable to/from the Amtrak station. As I always do, I checked in online and chose my room via the Hilton app the day before arrival. When I got to town it was an easy walk from the Amtrak station to this hotel. Because I wanted to claim my spring water and obligatory cookie, I still visisted the front desk. I found staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. Soon I was in my chosen room, and appreciative of the air conditioning as it was a fairly hot day for October. The room certainly was comfortable, and was amply sized for my needs. Plenty of space for my belongings. The view out to the west overlooked a baseball stadium (minor league season was over anyhow). No problems with climate control, TV, nor WiFi. Bathroom was good sized, with counter space for my toiletries. No issues with hot water. I did not partake of any onsite restaurants, but instead ordered dinner by an app based delivery service. No problems with sleeping. The following day with things to do in town, I was able to store my luggage upon check-out at the front desk while I was away, only to return later before I was to depart. When I went back to the hotel to retrieve my luggage, I asked where the restroom is. I was directed into the restaurant, as the lobby itself doesn't have one. When I got there, the lone stall was marked as Out of Order. Back again at the desk I was told that there are other restrooms on the 7th floor. An employee took me up the elevator (since I no longer had a card key) to that floor, which was a nice gesture. Finally I left for the last time, killed some time downtown, and walked to the Amtrak station for my return trip out of town. Overall, my experience was positive. I think the building shows its age a bit but for the most part I did not notice any issues other than the broken toilet. I would recommend this place for its convenience and the professionalism of the employees I encountered.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. I hope you find it valuable. This was a business trip for my wife, and I tagged along, which is a great perk for me since I work remotely. ARRIVAL: We had a rental car, and the drive from ELP airport took about 20 minutes. There is dedicated check-in parking, which is nice, but we saw the same cars parked there for more than 10 minutes, some for longer than 24 hours. Our room rate was $135/night for three nights. Parking wasn’t charged to my knowledge, and it is all self-park. CHECK-IN: We did use the app check-in and digital key, but we did have to go back to the front desk, which I will explain more about later. The front desk team over three days was very nice, accommodating, and ready to solve any issues. PROPERTY: The hotel is located in downtown El Paso, and from my research was last updated in 2009. We chose this property because it is the only Hilton property downtown. Marriott has a few, with a new Courtyard across the street and one of the Autograph Collection a few blocks away, which is beautiful. My wife uses Hilton, thus why we stayed here. There are some nice little restaurants and bars in the area, all within walking distance. The hotel is very dark, and you can tell it needs updates and to make things more “fresh”. There is a pool, which I did not use, but looked ok from our window on the 13th floor. ROOM/ACCOMMODATIONS: This is where the issues are. The rooms are run-down, dark, and just plain not acceptable for a Hilton property. Our original room was on the 16th floor. There were massive stains on the carpet. Yes, there is nasty carpet on the floors still. The bathroom looked like a cave. Two torch lights by the mirror and one dim light on the ceiling. No fridge at all. I did go down to request a room change. The front desk staff did apologize, and we received a room on the 13th floor. The plus side was that this room had slightly better lighting in the bathroom (important for ladies to do their makeup), and we did have a mini-fridge that had a microwave stacked on top of it. Classy! Yep, more stains on the carpets. Really gross. Either clean them or renovate your rooms and go to LVP flooring. It is not that hard. The bed is very soft as well as the pillows. The A/C was great. Other than that, it is a run-down room that really needs a facelift. STAFF/SERVICE: The staff was nice, attentive, and customer-oriented. I am sure they are aware that this property needs a massive rehab, and they do everything they can to accommodate the guests. FOOD/BARS: We did not eat here, but did have drinks at the bar, which opens at 4 pm each day. It did take the bartender 15 minutes to get us drinks, because when they close at night, every single bottle is taken down and locked away. Just a suggestion to the bar staff. Arrive a little early so you can be ready to serve when the bar opens. Other than that, the staff was nice and the cocktails were good. ENTERTAINMENT: N/A SUMMARY: This place really needs a serious remodel. 16 years is far too long. Your staff and guests deserve it. As the only Hilton property downtown, your competition really has a leg up on you from a quality standpoint. Great location with a lot to do nearby in walking distance. Clean. The bed was so soft and comfortable. People at front desk were very nice, efficient, and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel was excellent. Our only complaint is that our room had no refrigerator and the carpet had some stains. But, we will definitely stay there again if ever in the area.
