"AVOID THIS HOTEL"

My room was filthy. Black mold all around the tube. Filthy carpet that turned my socks black. Management does not dust or sweep the rooms. The room stank, the carpet was filthy and the mold in the bathroom was disgusting.

There were cockroaches in the rooms, very dirty, and you can reserve whatever room you want and they will just give you what they want. We and our other party left, did not stay in that filthy place. I better be receiving my refund

I've stayed in other Candlewood Suites before. Never had experienced such a smelly, dirty, mismanaged place. Mold around bathtub food particles on top of refrigerator, smeers on television dust on things.

"Adequate, but nothing more"

Friendly staff but room was woefully inadequately equipped with basic items such as a bath mat for the tub which mad it extremely slippery. TINY bar of soap with no soap dish, minimal towels and difficulty getting additional ones. Recline char didn’t work right. It was nice to have the kitchenette, but no table or surface of any kind to eat any food. My major problem that after having. terrible night of sleep the night before my departure, I asked and was granted a late checkout of 12 noon ( instead of the standard 11:00 AM checkout departure time. I appreciated this very much , HOWEVER, the maid service knocked very hard on my door at 9AM and woke me and my spouse!!! I told them that we had a late checkout and they shouldn’t have done that. They didn’t even apologize! Why did they not communicate with the front desk on something so basic and simple? It was then impossible to fall back to sleep and we left feeling very angry and exhausted . I will be seeking a partial refund for this major inconvenience. The hotel is within 15 minutes of Hershey Park, which in my opinion, is the primary reason it is worth considering in your travel plans.

"Way Too Much Amiss"

Having used IHG hotels for more than a decade, we have generally found consistency and compliance. The hotels, no matter which brand (e.g. Avid, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites) have all met a minimum standard for quality. Some were very good and some were good, but they all met the bar for places that we would stay at again and that consistency kept us coming back. Likewise, they have always had a level of compliance from whoever oversees IHG franchises that created a comfort level that the room would be clean and comfortable. Sadly, such was not the case at this Candlewood Suites location. The lobby was fine with a small amount of comfortable seating and decent decor. From there, though, the experience declines. Strike one - our third floor hallway was dank and had an off putting smell. Our room was even worse with a definite mustiness and pungent aroma. The air conditioner turned on to "fan" mode to try to draw in some of the air from the parking lot but it only seemed to be recycling the air from inside the room. The smell never really dissipated. Strike two - none of the USB charging ports on the lamps work; so be prepared to bring wall adapters for any devices you might want to charge. Strike three - the TV did not work and could never connect to their DirectTV service. Despite multiple attempts by the front desk staff (who came to the room and reset everything they could) the tv would not work and it became a very long evening. Apologetically, the staff said they were sold out and could not move us to another room. Strike four - the dead bug. I guess it is certainly better than finding a live bug, but when you go to throw something in the kitchen trash and this is right next to the pail, you really wonder how housekeeping missed it. Strike five - no recognition. It may seem petty, but we stay almost exclusively at IHG properties, and it is welcoming when the front desk staff acknowledge that fact. If it is not a big deal for the franchisee or IHG, then maybe it shouldn't be a big deal for us any more. I could go on, but the point is that other than the front desk staff trying to help fix the tv, it seems that no one at this operation cares. Ownership, IHG site inspections, housekeeping - they all failed. There are plenty of other IHG properties in the Hershey - Harrisburg area, so put this one bottom on the list if you have stay with them.
