Hampton Inn & Suites Dumas

I've stayed here a couple of times before. It seems clean, and I slept well--which is the main criterion I have for a hotel. It's basically a dependable place to stay, as good as you're going to do in Dumas. I knocked it down one star because of a couple of things: I'm not sure about the folks behind the front desk. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for a room facing away from the highway (otherwise expect plenty of noise from semi trucks roaring down the highway). When I checked in, the desk clerk said they'd reserved my room "facing the highway, just like you requested." There was a sign on the desk advising that roofing work was being done, that some of the foam could blow off onto customer's cars, so "park on the south side of the building". The guy at the desk had no idea what any of that meant. I went out and talked to the guys doing the work and they said they were finishing up the whole project that afternoon. Watch that you don't get a room next to the laundry room. Mine was, luckily no one did laundry at night, though the sign said it was open until midnight. That could ruin a night's sleep. Someone did do laundry in the morning and the washer made really loud groaning noises you cold hear down the hall--and loud in my room. Breakfast was okay if you're into continental breakfast and waffles stuff. As far as meat and eggs, they served polish sausage in a maple sauce, which seemed pretty strange.

The rooms definitely need some TLC. Especially in the bathroom.The shower head definitely needs to be replaced. Carpet was wearing thin.
