Luxurious and spacious room. A beautiful hotel located in a charming village

The place is hard to find, especially night time. The only way to get there is by narrow winding road that is not properly marked. Call and ask for directions!!! Access to the parking is not possible for a car bigger than anavaverage European family car...

The hotel and hotel staff were great. Comfortable clean rooms and bathrooms. Only complaint is the location. If you plan on staying here rent a car and be very comfortable driving a stick shift. Portaria is a 30min drive from Volos and 1hr drive to the east coast. There are some restaurants in Portaria but not much else to do in this area.

Almost excellent. The only disadvantage is the quiet difficult access to the hotel. But worth visiting, one of the best in the area.

After booking the room I have been contacted by the hotel to be told that they had no room available. A room for which I had already paid! Can't tell how many phone calls I had with the hotel itself and with hotels.com customer service to sort this thing out. A very unpleasant situation, just to get the money I had already paid back. Of course I also couldn't agree with the fact that if it was me to cancel my staying I would be charged for the full amount, but since it was the hotel to do it, then I was not entitled to anything. After all I got a form of compensation for all the troubles directly from the hotel owner, which kindly offered me to have a free staying in his hotel over a weekend of my choice.

More than expected, very good staff, very good showers

The trip to Portaria is via a very long and windy road which is not for the faint hearted as much of the road has no barrier rails. The driveway to the hotel is obscure and a very tight cobbled path, so you need to take it slowly and ideally in the daylight. The hotel itself is wonderful, service from Dimitrios is unsurpassed and the rooms are generously large for Greece, very modern fit outs and the whole hotel has had a very high quality fit and finish, well maintained and the owner himself was very friendly. The breakfast is typically continental, although does have some hot food. There were no downsides to report, and we would stay there again. The hotel is suitable for families.

Sept 2012 fantastic resort experience. Highly recommended; however driving in is not for the faint of heart, as final cobblestone lanes are very difficult for north American drivers. Choose a small rental car(don't go for the free upgrade). Well worth the winding road drive! Breakfast great, service exceptional. True pellion experience. A welcome relief from Volos. Highly recommended!

The hotel itself was beautiful and in a great location - it would have just helped to know that its at the top of a very steep mountain! with 3 kids in the car driving late at night - it was an adventure but worth the ffort!

Had a wonderful time at Despotiko hotel.well designed , very comfortable in a very beautiful area. to enjoy it, you must have a car.
