We were given a free upgrade from a standard room to the garden room at the last moment due to a check out error from the previous guest which served us well and was very happy with the extra space. Location was walkable to shops and restaurants and having the couch and garden view was lovely, though would've been a tight fit if we hadn't got the upgrade and quite expensive for that room option. Very tidy space and good amenities.

Communication was a bit confusing as we were given codes to two rooms at check in and accidentally entered into another person's flat. This was quickly corrected by the host. There was a brief water outage which was planned and understandable but I wasn't notified of it and was having a shower during this time. We also had a random woman enter our room midway through our stay and since the door is locked with a digital keypad, these codes are obviously not changed regularly ?possibly a previous guest trying to re-enter the room? She promptly left when she realised we were in the room and didn't return.

The location was excellent and very convenient, with most places within walking distance, making it easy to get around and explore. There was also free parking nearby which was easy to access, which was a big advantage. The host was very responsive and helpful—when we experienced an issue with the hot water on arrival, they resolved it straight away, which we really appreciated.

The cleanliness could be improved, particularly around the fan, air conditioning unit, and near the windows where there was a noticeable build-up of dust. This made the environment feel less clean than expected. The air conditioning unit was also quite noisy, which was especially noticeable at night.

The listing for Bay Haven Lodge at Byron Bay was misleading. It came up amoung the motels listed but it was not a motel. It was a converted house with no parking except metered on-street parking on a busy road and a public carpark a block away. The listing says free parking, but this is in the public parking lot a block away. This was unsuitable for me in the basis of security. I did not stay because it was an unsatisfactory arrangement. I have foud booking.com reliable in the past but this was misleading. I would like to get a refund bofore using booking.com again.
