Perfectly clean, with an excellent cooked breakfast and very accommodating staff. Friendly dog and wood fire downstairs in the bar were a welcome bonus.

"Old world charm"

8.0

7 ensuite rooms in an old English inn. Plenty of squeaky floor boards and ancient beams but thick carpets and a recent makeover has given it a lift. Close to the m6 and only 1/2 an hour from Keswick

"Good"

6.0

The pub has lots of character and the staff were friendy and welcoming. However, after a long days drive on route to scotland we were very disapointed to find they were not serving food due to a staff shortage. This therefore necessitated a drive out. I would have preferred that they had emailed me earlier in the day as soon as the problem was known. Breakfast was ok, but again staff shortages meant we waited over 45 minutes for our food. The staff ( singular) was very nice and clearly working hard, but knowing the hotel was fully booked i would have thought they would sraff accordingly. So, a little disapointing but overall a nice place.

"Excellent stay and service"

10.0

Couldn't recommend this place enough, very welcoming and nothing was too much, staff very polite and humorous, pub/hotel is very old around 300 yrs i believe but did not define the stay, it is one of those places it is what it is for the money thats in no way saying bad it does what it says on the tin, onto the breakfast absolutely amazing and tberr was no limit or request was too much, also the beer is very good, will i be returning? ABSOLUTELY! This place is also 5 min drive from ullswater and penrith 5 mins opposite way, great location and very quiet couldnt recommend it enough, see you soon guys

"Nice staff but very dated interior and overpriced"

6.0

Pro's - Hotel is in a lovely location, staff are very friendly, decent sized car park and the meals were very nice. Con's - I know it's over 300 years old but the interior is very dated, carpets very worn, rooms not the cleanest, ancient plumbing (water spurted through my sink whenever someone else in the hotel used a toilet or shower) and there was a really bad fly infestation in the dining area which was unpleasant.
