Castlemartyr Resort

The surrounding area is beautiful including castle ruins but the hotel itself is awkwardly built. We stayed at the manor house and we walked what seemed like a mile to our room. There were rooms that appeared to be storage areas near us and the stairway adjacent appeared to be under construction. The room itself, while tastefully decorated, was not well maintained. The shower and faucet was dirty, the walls had stains on them, and it had the feel of neglect. It’s very isolated so we ate at the Canopy Restaurant for dinner and breakfast and while the service was fine, the food was terrible. No effort, no flavor, and no creativity. Overall, probably once was beautiful but get the feeling like it’s run down and will continue to be that way with continued neglect.

The room was expensive but it was huge, very luxurious and beautifully laid out. The restaurant was pleasant and the food was nice but not quite up to the standard of the rooms. The spa is top notch and I had the best facial I have had in a long time.

Our Junior Suite was very nice with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay and it was very spacious.

Ok so the rooms are very nice at A 5* standard , no netflix or YouTube on tv but its there but not working. Room service Food was horrendous! We orderd a stake sandwich the bred was hard and stale , i got fried chicken was like something out of KFC the salads that came with both melas was a handful of lambs lettuce and 1 chopped soggy cherry tomato with a squirt of mayonnaise. The chips where exactly what would get in Mcdonald. The restaurant was booked up on the 2 nights, beacuse the 2nd restaurant was under renovation and not mentioned during booking. I had to make a complaint The manager was helpful and understanding giving the circumstances. I could go on and on.. In my view its a nice building with nice rooms but most definitely not a 5***** service.. and very over priced for the reason.

We stayed for one night in a Deluxe double room overlooking the golf course and truly enjoyed our time there. The room was really spacious, with the bathroom having both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. Also of note were the wardrobe and coffee-making facilities in the room, evoking the style of the Orient Express. Even though our room was located in a separate wing to the Manor House, the long and winding corridor to it was full of modern art which gave the overall impression of walking through a museum. During our stay however, this aspect was slightly disturbed by ongoing renovation work for a new reception area. Nevertheless, it wasn't too much of a bother. Having arrived in the evening, we had time to use the spa area before dinner. The pool was long enough for laps. However, the only downside of going so late is missing out on the great views of the estate offered by the huge glass wall. While dinner was as good as expected, we were even more fascinated by the bar area which is located in what seemed to be a ballroom. For breakfast we had a table with a nice view overlooking the gardens and the food options were plentiful. Furthermore, after breakfast we had a lovely walk around the property, which is truly amazing, especially the old castle ruins and the river walk.

Stayed for a night for wedding and staff service and food were fab....bathroom fabolous but room and bed were bit dated....overall grest stay and would stay again no worries

Fantastic hotel, good facilities, all food and drinks were excellent. Staff are very friendly and professional. There is currently building work being carried out at the hotel which is a little unpleasant. This should be completed by Easter and after that I expect it will be fabulous. However when I booked I was informed that there were building works being carried out In the car park which is not true it is inside the hotel and you have to walk through building works to get to your room. Also one of the bar/restaurants is now closed due to works so food and drink options are limited at the moment. Breakfast and swimming pool needs to be reserved. Other than that we loved our stay. Bedrooms are large.

Most over rated hotel I've ever stayed at. Service was really poor. Food was honestly shocking. Ordered from the bar Asian salmon kebabs w warm aisan salad, sesame seeds pickled vegetables etc and got a bowl of noodles with some red peppers and salmon and nothing else. When table was finally cleared an hour later I complained and there was no interest by staff. We had dinner in the grill, couldn't book, arrived, queued asked to wait 25 mins in corridor. I said we'd go to bar. 5 later after just ordering drinks they called us saying table ready. Arrived back, queued again, finally got table, waited a other 20 mins for menu. What I wanted on menu wasn't available. Asked for manager. Forgot to say we had downgraded room as suite was not cosy or romantic at all, they were supposed to drop new keys while we were in the bar, they never did, nor did they move our luggage which they said they would. Once we got back to room it took another hour to get our luggage and they somehow have lost my wife's scarf!... Back to the meal. Manager arrived, we said we'd never stayed in a 5star hotel with such poor standards. Said he would come back when we had finished our meal. Meal arrived, food shocking again. Potatoes and fish cold, vegetables really poor. Manager arrived back during our meal! Told us he would go into kitchen and watch chef cook the food... What! Need drink after that, ordered a Teelings whiskey, that came but second one too nearly half an hour! They had run out. Avoid.
