Parador de Mojácar

Extensive renovation works being carried out including re-making of pool which had not been notified to us. Seaview room destroyed by building works. Painting of our corridor with continual smells of paint in room. Aircon didn't work - no fans available as an alternative.

Wish I'd read the comments here and I could have cancelled. As you drive into the hotel, past the skip, mechanical digger and a vast array of building materials, the noise hits you immediately, together with the realisation that there is no longer a pool, despite photos still appearing on the website. The superior sea view room we paid a considerable amount for was noisy with a terrible outlook onto the works. We changed to a standard room which overlooked other bedroom balconies but first had to negotiate the painters and dust sheets as the corridor was being painted. We were offered a credit of the difference between the 2 rooms which we took as 2 breakfasts and a credit in the bar. Their definition of bar was a sofa in the dining room together with the other guests having their evening meal. The aircon unit blew out a pathetic waft of warm air which did nothing to dispel the odour of paint . We've stayed at several Parador hotels, including this one previously, and always had excellent service and facilities, but not to be informed of all this renovation work is a huge lack of respect to the guests.

Room was spacious and clean.

Major construction work taking place in the pool area. Therefore the pool and surrounding facilities were out of use. Bar consisted of a small table with no proper bar facilities. Restaurant looked uninviting due to same construction work and view of the refurbishment. 50% of the facilities out of use but 100% of the price.

The extensive building work at the former pool area ruined this stay. There is no information on the website and the Hotel did not inform me this work was going on after or during the booking process. This lack of transparency led us into a situation where I could not make an informed choice and cancel the booking before arrival. The pool area is a real mess and I seriously doubt it will be completed before August. The Bar (a makeshift table) and restaurant did not look appealing so we ate out and are leaving without taking up the offer of breakfast. I write this at 5am from my room dissatisfied and can't wait to leave. My advice, cancel your reservation if you can until the work is completed.

The was the first Parador we ever stayed at back in 2014. The hotel remains the same and the staff friendly. The huge negative was the construction zone outside our window with workers completely reworking the pool area beginning at 8am each day. I can understand guests being irate when they were expecting a pool and there is none. Even the view to the ocean was obstructed. Check in was easy and there is free parking, but it can fill up. There are EV charging points. The room was nothing fancy, but completely adequate. Complimentary water was provided as was a pot for boiling water. There was a do not drink the tap water sticker in the bathroom, so I’m not sure why water glasses were in there. The breakfast buffet is standard for a Parador, but I’m not a big fan of birds flying into the dining room and walking on tables, napkins, etc. While the hotel itself was fine until the construction is completed, I’d avoid it.
