Of the four riads I've stayed at during my trip thus far, this has definitely been the highlight (the other three were nice as well!). The common areas and my rather spacious suite were beautifully furnished and decorated. Breakfast was good and was served on the roof terrace with views of the city and the ocean. Centrally located inside the Medina, but the rooms are very quiet thanks to their inward location. If I return to Essaouira in the future I'll definitely book Riad Al Zahia again.

The good: The room was very spacious and bathroom good. All very clean. Breakfasts were delicious. Lovely rooftop and downstairs relaxation area. Great location. Lovely town, worth spending a couple of days here. The meh: Except for the breakfast lady, the remainder of the staff didn’t engage with us except for checking us in and out. A cheap bottle of wine cost us over 220 Dirham (around £20) which is a 400% markup on buying it at the bottle shop. And they refused to let us pay for it on card, which was inconvenient. No A/C in the room (not that we needed, but would if it was hot). Beds are very hard.

Breakfast was excellent, worth the stay. And the staff very helpful and kind. I will stay there again next time.

Wonderful riad in the heart of the medina. Clemente is a charming and helpful host with lots of practical tips and information which made our stay in Essaouira even more enjoyable. The Riad has the added bonus of being directly opposite Moga Yoga so morning yoga an extra treat. Highly recommend booking Al Zahia - it’s a special place.

We liked everything. However a nice addition would be a sun lounger as there’s is only one available for anyone wishing to relax on the roof terrace and catch some rays. There are shaded areas to relax so this is a small thing.
