Grand Hotel Toplice

The staff was so helpful and the views of lake Bled were incredible.

Beautiful heritage grand hotel with many lovely quirks and old fashion customs.

The Grand Hotel Toplice offers a memorable experience, though it doesn’t quite meet the expectations of a 5-star property. The true highlight is the unrivaled view of Lake Bled—absolutely breathtaking and reason enough to return. We were charmed by the elegant neo-rococo design of the common areas, which at times had a unique, almost Soviet-era ambiance. We stayed in a lake-facing room with a balcony, which, while offering stunning views, was quite cramped with minimal storage. Our suitcases wouldn’t fit in the closets, leaving us to navigate around them. Given the hotel's age, we anticipated smaller rooms but would recommend opting for a suite if space is important to you. The hotel overall shows signs of wear, particularly in the hallways and some areas of the room. These things were minor but something you would not expect in a 5 star hotel. Although our bathroom appeared to have been updated recently, the renovation felt somewhat inconsistent with the hotel’s historic charm. Small details, like bars of soap without a soap dish, left the limited counter space wet and cluttered. In summary, while the hotel could use some updates and a thorough cleaning, the incredible views and historic charm make it worth a visit. I’d gladly stay here again despite its flaws and must note that we had wonderful interactions with staff as well!

This is like a grand old dame……parts notably bathrooms and balconies looking their age but lovely staff and the position is one of best in Lake Bled……stunning view from balcony and hotel right on lake with nice swimming platform and own rowing boats for use of guests. Good breakfast ….cant comment on dinner as we ate out whilst there but hotel gave excellent recommendations . Lake bled such a beautiful place……

The location of this hotel is unbeatable, right on the lake (but you need to get a lake view otherwise you will overlook the road!) but not worth the price overall sadly. The rooms are very small and not sound proof, drafts under the doors, bathroom is dated and shower/bath very small, service slow and pool is cold. The breakfast is good (buffet and a la carte) and views are amazing. The outdoor lido for swimming and taking boats out was closed due to a tiny bit of rain.

Squeaky parquet floors and shutters in need of paint, but I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. Directly on lake, swim deck, good breakfast, and helpful staff.

The hotel is undoubtedly the best location on the lake with absolutely stunning views. We got lucky with parking right outside the hotel for €10 per day and check in was seamless. The room and hotel were dated as expected but some of this adds to its charm. It was like walking into the 1920s. Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable. 2 singles pushed together and both creaked every time we moved - hopefully the upcoming renovations will address issues like this. We took advantage of the free rowing boat hire and the staff member was kind enough to allow us 90 minutes instead of 60 which was perfect to row around the island and back at a reasonable pace (a must do when in Bled!) The sunbathing deck and roped area for swimming was also lovely. Breakfast was very good with a huge selection to choose from. There were a few minor things in addition to the uncomfortable bed which let the overall experience down a little. We went to the spa and tried to check in as advised by the signs but there was nobody at the reception. I nipped to the bar next door and the bar lady was particularly unhelpful and just said “someone would come” (they didn’t). We found our own towels and went in anyway - the pool was absolutely freezing! I know it’s supposed to be natural and rejuvenating but it certainly wasn’t relaxing - the lake was a much nicer temperature and I would recommend that instead for swimming. In the lounge / bar, there only seemed to be 1 young guy taking care of guests in these areas - we had to go looking for him more than once to be served. The minor issues weren’t enough to put us off revisiting or recommending it, mostly for the location, but there are a few improvements to be made before this could truly be considered 5*

Very beautiful hotel. Nice and clean room with great lake view. Breakfast was great with a lot of choices. Service was great. Wonderful location.
