Allyndale Motel

We had a nice stay at this motel. It was like a step back in time. A motel from the 50's. Why pay the big dollars for Canal Park. The grounds were beautiful. The room was clean, Check in was easy, and the staff was friendly. We'd stay again.

Our party was looking for two rooms for Duluth MN on Labor Day weekend. We had difficulty finding hotels that were under $300 per night - I think the cheapest I found down near Canal Street were about $250 a night with taxes ... So, we searched for something more affordable. Allyndale Motel is a little off the beaten track in actually what is known at West Duluth, but still only a 10 minute drive to the Canal St. area that has so many wonderful restaurants and the famous elevator bridge! I found the hosts at the front desk very friendly and helpful, and overall the stay was great. Just a little freshening up with some paint and new curtains, and I would say this place is classic! It was very clean, hot water was hot, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The motel sits adjacent to a greend space that is attached to the Superior Trail - so close to some nice walks. This is a place I would come back to -- especially for the price!

I stayed here with some friends the other night and I was very unpleased. I went to go to the bathroom and there was two squares of toilet paper on the roll and no other rolls in the room. There was clothes still in the dresser. The WiFi didn’t work on my laptop or phone as well. The breakfast was very small, all I saw was some coffee and a few snacks and cereal. The worst part of it all was that there was what looked to be bullet holes in the wall. The picture on the wall has two very clear holes in it and the wall was scattered with tiny holes that were very poorly plastered up. I attacked a picture of the wall, although the picture does not to it justice. I would most definitely choose a different place, pay the extra $10. I will have to say though that it was a quiet little place and the staff was friendly and there was a nice big grilling place with nice grass.

Nice older motel but very clean, nice towels and linens. Wonderful staff. We would stay there again!

I have some kind of bites all over Me. We checked for bedbugs. Not sure what it was but bit me all night. Gross

Quick service with use of a telephone. Appreciated the cable TV, lawn, frig, microwave, fluffy good smelling towels and continental breakfast. We don't have cable at home so that was a treat. Was an older room with some maintenance needed in the bathroom, small but adequate for the 2 of us.

This was our 2nd time here. It was the only place I found that didn't require a 3-night stay (we only needed one night) and did not price-gouge for the Labor Day weekend. It is just on the outskirts of Duluth as you come down the hill from I-35 so there is a slight view of the St Louis River basin, and right next to Keene Creek which was flowing nicely after lots of summer rains, although you can not see it from the property, there is a nice view from the road. There is a nice sitting area in front and also in back, which deer and bear frequently visit. The room itself is a little worn and outdated but for a quick overnight stay it was fine. It's a "mom and pop" type motel so don't expect much, it doe have cable tv and wi-fi!

Had end room with windows, that opened, on three sides. Clean. Comfortable. Bed was good, but pillows small. Standard amenities: micro, fridge, flat screen, coffee maker, clock radio, etc. WiFi was just so so. A little traffic noise but no bothersome. Table with chairs. Neat magnetic info sheet on fridge with motel and restaurant info (could be removed and taken when out and about). Bathroom cramped (not recommended for "large" people). Extensive beautiful grounds. Breakfast spartan. Would definitely stay again.
