"A memorable stay"

9.0

Very attentive and helpful staff, special mention of Karen who took excellent care of our group. Fantastic location immediately outside the gates of Machu Picchu! Comfortable rooms with “private” veranda and access to garden. Fabulous natural surroundings. Delightful variety of souvenir water bottles, and welcome chocolates and thoughtful amenities such as sun screen and mosquito repellant!

Food: Hamburger and club sandwich from room service excellent! Quality and variety of buffet in coffee shop very mediocre and uninspiring…bordering on bad cafeteria standards…! 😰 Food quality in main dining room good, 👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻 but not in line with the exuberant cost of accommodations per night…would have much preferred paying a la carte for food & alcoholic beverage with a reduced room rate…

"The best hotel around"

10.0

Everything was amazing, with extra comforts added. Chocolates, lots of extras in the rooms, like towels for your hair, epson salts for the bath. A rain coat and water bottle. A full mini bar with drinks and snacks. Comfortable beds. On and on. Luxury at its finest.

"5 star location"

8.0

One of four Belmond hotels we stayed at during our week in Peru and by far the most expensive. Our room (#20) was quite small and looked out to the front where buses were arriving every minute or two ferrying guests to the entrance to Machu Picchu. In fact, that’s the reason for staying here. We had a 2:30 entrance into the park in the bright sunshine after we arrived then again at 7 am the next morning in the misty fog. Based solely on room and bathroom size (both quite small with phone booth sized shower) this would be a 2-3 star spot. It was comfy and clean. But what distinguishes the Sanctuary is the very high level of service from the friendly staff. In addition, the food-breakfast, lunch and dinner, were all were good with ample variety and high quality. The location greatly simplifies and enhances a visit to Machu Picchu.

"Belmond"

8.0

Rooms too small. Overpriced. Food was mediocre: for the amount of money they charge us, not worth the money. Beautiful location and loved the amenities they provided, service was excellent and did everything they could to accommodate us.

"Exceptional"

The staff at the Sanctuary by Belmond were extraordinary in their efforts to make us feel at home and cared for. One of our party lost a wallet on the grounds and they made every effort to help us find it. The front desk were especially accommodating in assisting us book bus tickets and entry tickets to Machu Picchu. Thumbs up!

This hotel is the only one situated at the entrance gates to Machu Picchu, embedded in lush rain forest and just steps from the park entrance. The staff are outstanding - friendly and helpful. The restaurant was amazing. In all aspects Sanctuary Lodge was fantastic.
