Hakone Kowakien Tenyu

We stopped in Hakone for two days on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto and loved this hotel! The food is amazing, staff is so kind, and rooms were really spacious. Only downside - they don’t allow tattoos in their onsen, which was a bummer. We understand and abided by policies, but felt like we missed out on a big part of what this hotel offers due to that restriction. That being said, there are private open air baths in every room! So we did get to enjoy some of the hot spring water on a smaller scale. The breakfast and dinner is buffet style with lots of options, including some options for vegans and vegetarians. Beer, wine, and sake is included with dinner!

Outstanding service. Amazing buffet dinners and breakfast. Staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Packed us a boxed breakfast on our last morning as we left too early to enjoy breakfast. Token for the ice cream machines. Rooms beautifully appointed. Serene, beautiful settings. Highly recommended

Stayed for one night during our break in Japan. Gorgeous hotel, with beautiful room. Very traditional Ryokan, with hot spring fed tub on the balcony. Everything you could possibly want was provided, including traditional clothing to wear around the hotel. Very good buffet evening meal. Such good quality food and huge variety. Breakfast was just as good. There were two Onsens that you could use. One male and one female on different floors. These floors switched every day, so that you got a different view. Please be aware, no clothing is allowed in the Onsens. It is naked bathing, which we chose not to use. So many nice touches in the hotel. Like the hot foot soak and complementary ice creams. This was an experience we definitely won’t forget.
