ibis Belfast City Centre

Ibis hotels are functional and relatively budget friendly but the one that we stayed at in Belfast was generally lacking in creature comforts. The room was OK, although there was almost no storage space and no safe for valuables. The shower room looked like a fairly modern, compact wet-room but there was no fan extraction at all, which made it more like a steam room and rendered any attempt to use the mirror pointless; the air conditioning repeatedly malfunctioned, too. All across one wall was a floor-to-ceiling curtain that you might imagine covered a large window, but revealed a small aperture that let in very little natural light. We hadn’t planned to spend much time in the hotel but did decide to pay for breakfast on our last morning to avoid rushing before our flight. It was awful. The cooked breakfast looked and tasted like it had been there since the previous day and, despite several requests for the absent scrambled eggs, which staff repeatedly told guests would be there soon (“in a wee minute”), eventually arrived as we needed to be leaving. There are many budget hotels so Ibis really need to up their game in providing the basics.

The staff were excellent, the site was a nice distance for walking round the area, also close to bus services.

Check in was simple. Staff courteous & helpful. Our room was small but adequate, albeit without much natural light because of adjacent buildings. Beds were narrow but very comfortable. Breakfast excellent.

It is a bit pricey &the street around it quite derelict. But very central.
