Great stay! Excellent walkable downtown location. The hotel was super clean and the staff were excellent. Room was very comfortable and quiet. Would stay here again.

We recently stayed here while traveling from out-of-state for our daughter’s graduation from Lehigh University and on numerous occasions prior. Because hotel availability was limited for graduation weekend, we had reserved two rooms months in advance, one 100% prepaid through AMEX, as our oldest son and daughter-in-law were driving in separately from Pittsburgh. We arrived late in the evening only to be told by the front desk clerk that one of our reservations had been canceled. Unfortunately, she could not clearly explain which reservation had been canceled or why. I handed her my phone so AMEX could confirm the prepaid reservation directly, but instead of empathy or problem-solving, her response became defensive and focused on blaming her manager. My wife and I were certainly upset by the situation, but neither of us used vulgar language, shouted, or threatened anyone. What saddened and perplexed us most was that when my wife expressed frustration, the clerk warned she would call the police. At no point did the interaction warrant that type of escalation. The following morning I spoke with the hotel manager, who initially assured me she would review the situation and follow up after viewing the security footage. I never heard back from her. Later, I met with her manager, CJ, who was actually the first person throughout this experience who truly listened, showed empathy, and seemed genuinely concerned that there may have been a customer service failure. As business owners ourselves in a highly service-oriented industry, we shared that what we had hoped for from the beginning was simple acknowledgment and empathy. Something as basic as, “If I were in your shoes, I’d feel the same way,” or even an offer to help locate another nearby Hyatt room would have gone a long way. CJ handled the conversation professionally, offered Hyatt points as a goodwill gesture, and stated he would conduct additional service training with staff. At that point, I was honestly on the fence about whether we would stay there again. What changed my perspective completely was learning afterward how our oldest son had been treated earlier that same evening by the same clerk. When he walked into the lobby several hours before us, her first words to him were, “No public restrooms.” My son was not asking for a restroom. He was a paying guest checking into a reserved room. I understand the hotel may occasionally deal with non-guests coming in from the bus stop at the public parking area across the street. Still, it was deeply disappointing to hear that someone was apparently judged so quickly based on appearance. Our son is a hardworking blue-collar professional who dresses casually in jeans and a T-shirt. He was also recently diagnosed with early Parkinson’s disease, which can cause stiffness and slight tremors. Rather than being greeted as a guest, he was immediately treated with suspicion. That part of the experience saddened us more than the reservation issue itself. Everyone can make mistakes operationally. Reservations problems happen. What matters most is how guests are treated when things go wrong. Unfortunately, empathy and basic hospitality were missing at several critical moments during this stay.
