Botlierskop Tented Lodge

What a wonderful stay — but far too short. During our trip along the Garden Route, we absolutely wanted to do a game drive, so we booked one night here. But take our advice: one night here is simply not enough. To fully experience this place, you actually need at least two, maybe even three nights. Anyway, for anyone looking for a true safari experience in the western part of South Africa, there’s only one thing to say: Botlierskop is absolutely the right choice. Of course, it’s not Kruger — but hey, you know that in advance, and this reserve is clearly very well managed, and sustainably too. As for the accommodation: absolutely fantastic. Extremely spacious tented lodges with every imaginable comfort — and what views! We stayed in one of the lower lodges overlooking a pond where rhinos and buffaloes came to drink, just a few meters below us — truly breathtaking. The 3.5-hour game drive at sunset was educational and perfectly guided by Mel. The fact that we didn’t see lions didn’t matter at all — the rhinos, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs, wildebeests, giraffes and zebras more than made up for it. Finally, the staff were friendly and discreet — what more could you ask for? We’ll definitely be back, next time with our children. Thank you!

Everything was absolutely perfect… except for our own mistake of booking only one night. We only did a single game drive (at sunset), but you should really do at least two — ideally at different times of the day. (We can easily imagine that in the morning you’d get to see different animals and scenes.) And please, don’t get fixated on 'having to see' lions (for example) — that’s simply not how it works, and that’s exactly what makes it authentic. Otherwise, you might as well go to a zoo. Just let things come to you... And yes, the price is clearly on the higher side — but then again, it's a choice, and you definitely get your money’s worth.

A tenda é uma delícia! Tudo novo e funcionamento perfeito!

O safári deixa a desejar. Poucos animais. Não avisaram sobre o frio intenso do vento durante o passeio. Sofremos com isso.

Safari de luxe!!! Wij verbleven in luxe tenten , hebben al heel wat reiservaring achter de rug maar dit was ongezien! De dieren wandelen s morgens aan je neus voorbij, prima service en de gamedrives vakkundig met ervaring en vriendelijke gidsen met kennis van de dieren! Topervaring, zeker zijn geld waard! Restaurant lekker en niet prijzig!

Ondenkbaar om hier iets te verbeteren ..’. Is niet goedkoop maar de ervaring is zijn geld waard!

The tented suite was absolutely stunning! Beautifully furnished and well thought out design with spectacular views!! Great big dining hall with beautiful walk in fireplaces which were always lit - created a wonderful atmosphere! The spa was superb although sadly neither the sauna nor the steam room were at temperature for usage after our spa treatments. Dinner off the grill menu was superb! Meat was beautifully cooked, whilst I like my vegetables al dente these were borderline raw and took some chewing.

Staff could have been a bit sharper at meal times. Cutlery cleared once orders had been taken, for example fish cutlery and soup spoon when neither had been ordered. We ordered steaks two nights in a row and on both occasions had to request a steak knife when this could have just been offered. Sadly the breakfast offering whilst still very good was not up there with other offerings we have had in Cape Town. Quality of the produce was not quite there and the hot breakfasts need some seasoning.
