Hilton Garden Inn West Des Moines

Location is pretty good. Staff was friendly. The room I stayed in had an odd smell, maybe fumigated recently, not sure. I did not complain to the front desk so in fairness no opportunity for them to resolve. The room appeared to be recently, partially renovated, bathroom updated but the rest of the room could have other items replaced. The AC woke me several times throughout the night. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice in the area.

A bit on the expensive side but the cleanliness and staff lived up to that standard.

This property is in really bad shape. I should have taken pictures to share. Really worn out property and not maintained at all.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Was disappointed in the fact that breakfast was $10 per person even with the expensive room. Pool was adequate however the area was extremely humid for anyone wanting to just sit and watch children play.

Clean, convenient access, a lot around to do and eat.

The website shows bar/lounge onsite. Upon arival there are 2 bars and neither was open. When i went to my room it was very cold. could not adjust thermostat. Toilet was not operating correctly. would not flush. The breakfast buffet that cost $10 wasnt any better than i have had for free at other motel chains. Will never stay at this facility again. Way to expensive for what it was.

They could not provide me a receipt (printed or via email) because the reservation was done through booking.com. Very weird. Out of the 100s nights of stay booked through booking.com, it was the first time I experienced this.

The hotel was clean and ready for us to check in at 4pm. (We couldn't check in any earlier!) There was coffee and water available as needed. The breakfast was wonderful. (It wasn't free!) The shower was hot and had lots of "power". The room was clean.

The A/C in our room did not work. They moved us, but because they were completely booked we were not able to get a suite like we paid for. So we did not have the 3rd bed that we needed. They gave us a coupon for breakfast, but would not refund the price difference because we booked through hotels.com. We were not impressed by anything. It is an ok hotel.

At check in the desk clerk (a female) was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but pretty dated and overall had a bit of an old feel. The hallways felt dingy and the carpet was not clean. The room was quiet and the wifi was strong. Breakfast was good, the little buffet had a wide variety of items. The main problem came at checkout. I always ask for a paper folio and noticed that I had been charged for something incorrectly. And the charge increased the cost of my stay quite a bit. The male desk clerk, who had already been pretty curt with me, developed a very nasty attitude when I told him of the error. He told me to just leave and that the error would be fixed later that day (a major red flag). I asked if it could be fixed right then and told him I was more than happy to wait. From then on, he slammed things around on his desk, made exaggerated sighs, had an angry expression on his face, and wouldn't make eye contact with me, even when giving me the updated folio. The check out process took 30 minutes, thankfully we weren't in a hurry. I will also add, that it was mid-week, and no one else was checking out the entire time, so it's not like my request held any one up. The clerk was just rude. He was even rude to two gentlemen who were looking for a conference and confused as to where to go- they stopped to ask him and he let a full minute go by before he answered them. It was so awkward I almost answered them myself because I had seen the signs. When he tossed my folio back to me, there was no "Have a good day" or "Thanks for staying with us" or anything. I am a Diamond and I don't ever throw it around, but most definitely did not feel any appreciation for the Diamond status or even for being a loyal Hilton customer. It really meant nothing here. Because of the way the clerk "fixed" the problem, I had to watch my credit card to make sure the original charge would be credited back and the new charge was correct. It took a week for the charges to finally rectify themselves. Most definitely will be staying elsewhere when in the area next time.
