Parador de Cardona

Parador is right in the middle of a medieval castle, great place to stay, stylish restaurant, very friendly service, not very far from Madonna di Montserrat

A very characterful property. Some staff were very helpful eg the welcome at reception was warm and informative. The room was plain but comfortable - the views are remarkable. Restaurant was fine - the food was good but not great and the service was mixed (and way too ‘efficient’ - we got through the courses rather breathlessly!). It is a good Parador, not a great one.

No kettle/tea/coffee in room. Bar sitting out area was oddly managed: the retractable blind was not used to enable its use in the baking sun during the day and the lights were not switched on when it went dark. The service in the restaurant was blatantly based on getting people through quickly: maybe wait until guests have left before stripping the tablecloths from the empty tables? It needs a maître d’. The whole place felt ‘patchy’ - it needs a stronger management presence to quality assure aspects. Having said all that, it was a good stay. It just could have been a great stay with more attention to small details.
