Royal Castle Hotel

Perfect location. Beautiful hotel & building. Exceptional staff.

We choose middle or rear room. Stayed in Room 5, which was lovely but no opening windows, consequently room felt airless although there is air conditioning. Also, nowhere to put toiletries or natural light to be able to make up Very soft pillows

What did we like? … well, that would be everything. Location for exploring Dartmouth; perfect. Breakfasts; truly scrumptious and generous, likewise the evening meals. Bedrooms; bursting with character, and thanks to its 17th century heritage, entertainingly wonky in the floor department, but benefitting from a terrific recent refurbishment by the St Austell brewery. Housekeeping; off the scale cleanliness, I have not seen a cleaner bathroom in any hotel at any price. Value for money; remarkable, I’d happily pay 25% more than I did. Ultimately though, the staff can make or break a place, and here the Royal Castle excelled; every person we met was friendly and helpful and cheerful and interesting to chat with.

Not a criticism, but if the view is important to you, just check exactly what type of view you think you are booking. We booked a ‘Signature View Double’ and it did have a view, but of the quirky town rising behind the hotel, not the more beautiful river Dart to the front of the hotel.

Accueil irréprochable et chaleureux, emplacement idéal et chambre très soignée. Petit déjeuner exceptionnel.

Chambre standard un peu petite mais tellement jolie que ce n'est pas un problème. Isolation entre les chambres pas terrible donc on entend la télévision des voisins, heureusement ils ont éteint assez vite.

We stayed here for 2 nights. What a great stay. Perfect location. The hotel has been refurbished to a high standard. All the the staff were very attentive whether is bar staff, restaurant staff etc. We had a room at the top of the hotel over looking the river. A table and two chairs setup so you can watch the word go bye. Tea and coffe in the room, fridge full of drinks (extra except the 2 beers) and plenty of snacks (pay as you go). The bed was really comfy and the bathroom was very nice. The castle is only a mile away, ferrys to get to Kingswier and plenty of other boat trips available.

Parking around Dartmouth is an issue. There are a few options available like the park n ride. Its NOT the hotel fault.
