Nothing

I've stayed at Brentwood in the past. The first time I stayed was around 2016 and it was lovely. The owners were so kind and personable. They gave attention to detail with everything. The rooms were pretty. There were beautiful toiletries including hand and body lotion and a lovely flannel for the face. The room and bathroom I stayed in were perfect. Tea and biscuits were laid out in an appealing way. Breakfast was tasteful. You could keep your parked on the street the next day of you had checked out, for a few hours without being charged extra, Unfortunately A LOT has changed. There is NO contact with the owners. Toiletries are minimal and cheap (one hand wash and one body wash). Rooms are very very basic in their design. They are not attractive. Kettle and teabags etc are strangely and unappealingly stored in the sink cabinet! I mean, why would I want to have tea from there?! If you want to stay in York a few more hours on the day you check out, you have to pay another £5 which is what they charge for 1 night (from 2pm. to 10am). The walls are extremely thin so you can hear EVERYTHING happening in rooms connecting to yours. Floors are creaky so if you are unfortunate enough to be sleeping in a room beneath another, you can hear the floor creaking, and every single movement people make!. I did not much at all. Worst of all, because I couldn't sleep I sent the owners a message. What they did was NOTHING. They did not even have the courtesy to respond!. In my message I even added that I was sorry to message them at that hour (it was 2am). I told them I had been trying to sleep since 10pm and I was so tired I wanted to cry. Still no reply. So I would AVOID and pay a little extra for a nicer, more comfortable and restful stay with more courteous hotel staff.

Location, just 10 minutes walk to the Minster. Very quiet, comfortable and excellent value for money

Room 4 wasn't ensuite but it wasn't a big problem to be fair.

"These are our experiences from staying in Room 1 on the ground floor, I can’t speak for other rooms. I loved York and wi"

5.0

It was exceptionally clean, particularly the en-suite and the property was in a great location. Situated on a pleasant quiet street with a 10 min walk from centre.

The room has a frosted window with a broken blind. This made the room dark and dingy- very depressing with the dark carpet and mustard coloured walls. An outside area (behind frosted window) must be covered with a plastic/ Perspex roof so when it rained all through the night it was so noisy. The room smelt stale and was being masked by an equally as offensive wall plug in freshener. I removed this as they should not be expecting guests to breathe this in. The check in and organising a parking permit was very last minute, the staff member not the friendliest in dealing with this. There are two additional doorbells at the property with messages and phone numbers written next to them, one for another guest house, the other with ‘massage’- very disconcerting to say the least.
