Hotel Matina

This was our second visit to Matina hotel. To be welcomed with the open arms of the owner and manager was very special to the three of us. Every member of staff is polite, courteous, friendly, hard working and they reflect the special ethos of the hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them and they treat everyone in the same manner. There is such enthusiasm for their island that on this visit , we explored its ancient hisory and museums, having been given brilliant instructions from the staff. Next time we plan to go to the outdoor cinema too. Our rooms were exactly what we d asked for, a shaded terrace area and as for cleanliness, the standard cannot be bettered. The buffet breakfast was excellent. It is a very special hotel run by very special people Greece at its best.

We feel it is time to update our review of Hotel Matina which we wrote in 2011 when Vangelis and his wife,Matina (hence the name),ran the hotel with the assistance of their daughter,Vasso.Although Vangelis still puts in visits to the hotel,it is now run by Vasso with the very able assistance of hotel manager Elias.Together with Ender they form a very experienced team and the high standards the hotel has always provided continue. For us the friendly,helpful nature of ALL staff is a breath of fresh air. The first thing that strikes is the overall cleanliness of the hotel. There are a number of rooms which have been upgraded and are splendid but,obviously,more expensive than the standard rooms. The standard room has A/C,TV,Telephone,fridge,safe and compact bathroom with shower. The reception area is spacious and an ironing facility is available in the basement.Pool towels are provided by reception. The pool area is,again,spacious with approximately 20/25 comfortable loungers,bar stools,6 or so tables and chairs and a well stocked bar that also offers snacks. No review would be worthwhile without mentioning the breakfast.It is,in our opinion,outstanding.There are numerous choices,both hot and cold some of which change on a daily basis (I confess my favourite are the small spanakopita parcels!).There are also fruit juices,water,a coffee machine and tea. As a relatively small hotel, Hotel Matina "Punches well above its weight. Highly recommended.

One of the best boutique hotels I have stayed in . This hotel proves you don’t need to be grand to be great Very clean, well maintained , linen was top class Amazing service and superb attitude of Elias the hotel manager Such a pleasant stay Can Europe make bigger bathrooms

The place was amazing, very clean and tidy. Good variety of foods at breakfast, and the most amazing staff. Will definitely be back.

The hosts were really nice and helpful. We got a lot of recommendations for what to do in kamari and where to eat which was helpful. The area was nice and close to the beach. The pool was big and clean. If we come back to Santorini we would for sure choose this hotel again!

So pleased to enjoy once again, a familiar place (visited the hotel Matina for holidays several times during last decade). One of the cleanest hotels I have ever been. Also, every day a new surprise in breakfast (never boring/ hand made sweets & pies). Most important: can approach the Kamari beach on foot! Great swimming times at a unique landscape.

This was our second trip to Santorini, having previously visited in 2019, and we were eager to go back to the Hotel Matina as we loved it so much last time. We were not disappointed. Elias and the other staff were so welcoming and attentive. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they really offer personal service. Our rooms were all spotless, as is the rest of the hotel. The buffet breakfast has lots of options, both hot and cold, and varies daily. It’s all delicious and fresh. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool, which is in a picturesque garden area, and towels, for use there and on the beach, are provided (clean ones each day). There is a little bar area serving hot and cold drinks and lovely salads for lunch. In the evening, cocktails are available and bar snacks are complementary. A lovely place to meet up before going out for dinner. If you prefer the beach, it is only a 5 minute walk away but the hotel is in a quieter area than the main seafront which we preferred. Along the seafront there are many restaurants, bars etc to choose from, and shops to browse. An idyllic location for families, couples or groups of friends. We will definitely be back.
