Berthelot Hotel Bucharest

In a nice area, staff was friendly, rooms clean and breakfast was very tasty. Some paint was chipping off of the bathroom ceiling. Very close to the tourist areas. In conclusion, would definitely come here again and visit this wonderful city.

Just returned from 3 nights here. Location is good, about 10 mins walk from the Metro, maybe 20 to the Old Town. Decent craft beer place close by. Entrance is unusual, you go down stairs into a very dimly lit lobby area. The reception is a tiny glass booth like you see in a car-park or something. Very abrupt staff member checked me in. When I first entered the room the smell hit me immediately. Like a spicy sour milk (not the usual methylated spirits damp type smell). Not sure what's causing that, maybe there is indeed dampness and it just happened to smell that way. Of course, you get used to it after a few mins...but it hits you every time. Other than that, the room was ok, nice and warm (had aircon that I never switched on). I'd booked a single, and this one had 2 single beds, a fridge (unplugged for some reason), Nespresso style coffee machine and 2 bottles of water - which was refreshed daily. The huge plus is a proper Samsung smart TV with YouTube etc. Very few hotels I've stayed at have this, almost worth an extra point just for this. Breakfast was included - plenty of tables, and a changing seemingly random selection of food. Sometimes lukewarm however. Coffee was great from the touch screen machines.. Big minus for having keycards that only last 24 hours, so every evening I'd go to the room, find it didn't work, and have to traipse back down to get a replacement or a refresh (with grumpy service). So overall, not bad, but I'd probably try somewhere else if I visit Bucharest again.

The Hotel is easy to find but being visually impaired, front access to reception was a little difficult to negotiate. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful with English being spoken at all times. The National Gallery was a 6 minute walk. The breakfast was excellent and we would most certainly stay there again.

Lovely staff, night manager in particular was super helpful and nice.

Several staff members were very rude especially some at reception but also others. The safe didn’t work and the person who came to our room started yelling at us that we were not operating it correctly; he finally agreed that it was broken and said someone would come tomorrow to fix it but no one ever came. I told reception that two hallway lights were out and that it was completely dark in front of our door; for some reason he started yelling at me in poor English that I couldn’t understand. I also told the housekeeping supervisor and she said that wasn’t her job. The lights were never fixed. I tried to pay for laundry at reception and the woman started yelling at me that this was the wrong time; later this same woman literally started screaming at me when I asked where our laundry was; it apparently was was not her job to know about laundry. I have never experienced anything like this at any other hotel. We were with a group from the United States; maybe they don’t like Americans.

Nice comfortable room in a convenient location. Breakfasts were good, I'd say above average. A few minor downsides: - If stairs are an issue for you you need to take stairs of a ramp down to the entrance and a couple down (or the ramp) to enter the elevator. - The elevator is small, the posted capacity is 3. - The restaurant was closed 2 of the 4 evenings I was there.

Very attractive and convenient downtown location for very appealing room price.

This hotel was clean and comfortable for the price! There is breakfast available and a restaurant too! Carmen on the front desk was absolutely lovely and so helpful she even had a chat with a taxi driver when he was trying to overcharge for an airport fare! Our airport pick up was really early so Carmen organized a sandwich and a bottle of water for us at 2.30 am! Every hotel should have someone like Carmen!

Places to eat around, overall issue is that they resist to accept credit cards as form of payment- totally wrong

This is a true 4 star hotel located in a quiet street but not far from main thoroughfares but not exactly near the centre of town. The rooms are a good size with somewhat new furnishings. Very good breakfast with many and plentiful selections. It also offers a quiet air conditioning. We were there in two occasions and were only bothered once in the middle of the night by a neighbour speaking very loudly on the telephone. Other than that, everything was fine. It has a restaurant, but it is not always open.
