Caol Ishka Hotel

Positives - Lovely people who run this hotel, its very quiet, has spacious grounds, has a very good if limited restaurant, a very nice pool and is easy to reach the town if you have your own transport. The rooms are clean if a little weird, thats weird in a quirky way - they have all you need to be comfortable apart from a sprung bed. The beds are made of concrete (not like concrete literally concrete) with a 4" foam mattress on top so if you like your bed firm, you'll be fine. We managed to get a cheapish deal on the room. Not so positives - The hotel is next to a river so take plenty of mosquito repellent I didn't and was eaten alive, even through my clothes! The beds are made of concrete, the decor is weird in a sort of modernist vision of the future as envisioned in the 60's. If you don't have transport its a long and unpleasant walk into town along a very busy road. Sum up - Loved Syracuse, a very interesting town and a good location to explore the South East corner of Sicily. The hotel was clean and easy going and despite the "not so positives" we had a fabulous week. If I went to Syracuse again I'd stay in town.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at Caol Ishka. The hotel and its rooms are very stylish, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Our room was one of two upstairs room and had a balcony, would actually have preferred a downstairs room as they had a patio with seating that our balcony didn't. I think this was because we requested a sea view which was nice too. My only minor complaint about the room was that the towels were a bit worn and frayed around the edges but as I say, a minor detail. The pool was nice but would have been better if the pool cleaning machine was put away and the broken sun loungers put away instead of being left outside. Breakfast was good and had plenty of choice every day. The staff were all very friendly and could not do enough to help. We got great advice on places to visit in the surrounding area. I would say having a car would be preferable, its a great base for exploring the region of Syracuse and beyond. Its about 2 miles to the main centre of Ortigia and it would not be advisable to walk as its a very busy road with no pavement. It cost about 15 euro each way in a taxi. All in all we loved it here and would recommend it.

A very picturesque, small hotel with unique and very modern decor. Warm, friendly and welcoming staff with a great restaurant serving a high standard of food for across all meals of the day. Very peaceful and quiet, even being off the main road through Siracusa, you would never know and you definitely forget! With it being just off the main road, it's a great location with easy access to Ortigia and links to other towns and cities. Rooms continue the contemporary/rustic decor with excellent air conditioning. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

- spacious, clean rooms with excellent air conditioning and unique quirkiness - ample food at break with a great selection, served by a friendly waitress - excellent quality of lunchtime food - chilled, quiet pool side area with decent pool - restaurant in the evening - excellent locally sourced dishes - great location, 15 min drive to Centro Will be back if we come back to the area, highly recommend it!

Just spent 4 amazing nights at Caol Ishka and loved every minute of it. Whilst the infinity pool, decor and location are all great, the best thing by far is the service. Luca welcomed us with open arms telling us to treat his hotel as our own. Gabriella, the hotel manager could not do enough throughout our stay, booking restaurants, taxis and anything else we needed. They are just so friendly. The breakfast and restaurant were also fantastic. A huge selection of cheese, meats, cakes and cereal together with some of the best eggs I have ever had. The hotel is situated about 5 minutes from town by car and about 10 minutes to a really amazing beach called Arinella. This hotel would suit either a large group/wedding or a romantic getaway as it only has 10 rooms. I can not wait to go back.

We stayed here to celebrate a friends 40th birthday and we took over the whole hotel. The staff looked after our every need really well and did everything they could to make our stay as much fun as possible. Some rooms were style over function but that aside if your looking for a private retreat with a friendly atmosphere this will be perfect..

We enjoyed a delightful stay the highlight were the delightful staff, Giancarlo and Miriam to name just two! The setting just out of town, originally a farm house , now a contemporary cool modern facility. The food was local but fresh and stylish . Cole to town but far away to have some space!

Sehr freundliches und Hilfreiches Personal - trotz der etwas ärgerlichen Erfahrung auf Sizilien möchte man hier gerne wieder kommen - auf diese Menschen konnte / kann man sich verlassen! Danke nochmal !!!! Nettes Design und der Aufenthalt wird relaxt - ruhige Umgebung und doch zentral gelegen - paar Minuten nach Syrakus oder zum Strand - eigener Gartenanteil - Empfehlung war aus dem Sizilienreiseführer der SZ Frühstück war gut mit Südtirolerischem Akzent ..... Sizilien :-))

Great location, 7min drive to Siracuse old town, but in a nice and calm surrounding. Our room had its own outside terrace, next to the river. Very nice place to sit and relax (just be aware of the mosquitos). Garden and pool are great. Staff is very friendly; tries to do whether they can for you. Facilities are however starting to show wear and tear; breakfast is limited and every day the same; hence a bit expensive for the value you get.

We stayed for 6 nights in the beginning of April. Firstly we got an upgrade free of charge from standard to deluxe room just to make our stay more comfortable and hassle free with our little 19 months daughter. No stairs and lots more room for her to run around. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant food is high quality and delicious. Breakfast is also amazing! It is just 5 minutes drive from the city centre,so if you are looking for a secret quiet charming place, Caol Ishka is the one! Rebeca, Giulio & Maya
