Hotel Sandmelis

The Sandmelis fit my needs perfectly, but they were pretty specific. I was flying into Quito in the evening and planned to head to Otavalo first thing the next day. I wanted a hotel near the airport where I could leave my luggage the next day overnight while I was in Otavalo and reclaim it the following day upon my return. The hotel was clean, the breakfast good, the water hot and it offered everything I needed. They kept my bag in a secure room for the time I was in Otavalo and that allowed me to take the bus without the worry of much baggage...and room for the all the stuff I purchased there as well. I was able to reclaim my bag, then get back to the airport for my return flight home. If you are needing a place to stage your visit to Otavalo, this is the perfect place, at least until the new airport in Quito opens. It is not really the place to use a base to explore Quito, although I did find several good restaurants in the neighborhood.

We were picked up at the airport by the manager who spoke very good English and the staff are friendly and helpful. The lobby is quaintly decorated, the room clean and modest. We had a very poor night's sleep between all the traffic noise and being cold as there is no heat in the room. The breakfast included in the room rate consisted of a dry roll, something passing as orange juice, coffee con leche and scrambled eggs. We booked a much better hotel (Hotel Antinea) for when we returned to Quito. We paid the most money at Sandmelis for the least value.

A great hotel for staying close to the airport - we stayed for only one night - service is wonderful and very helpful - the staff seem to all speak English- nice room - large bathroom and hot water in a very short time. Breakfast is included too. Location is near the corner of two busy streets-not a pretty location and we didn't want to walk around there but convenient for getting to and from the airport quickly. An excellent Italian restaurant is located two doors away - Frattelli - and an ATM machine in the farmacia just around the corner. We got our wake up call on time - had breakfast earlier than expected - hired their transport to get us back to the airport for $8 - very nice friendly driver (we could have taken a taxi for maybe $4 though getting there in traffic cost us $6.50) Would recommend this hotel if you need a room close to the airport but for visiting the city and walking around, I"d recommend staying in the Las Carolinas area.

The hotel is well situated and well maintained. Rooms are a bit small. We`were disappointed since the wireless was not functioning. A ver nice breakfast. The neighborhood was safe but not many choices for restaurants.

I visited this hotel and was impressed with the staff who went out of their way to ensure everyone was comfortable and enjoying their stay. It's located close the airport in a safe neighborhood with plenty of access to private and public transportation. It was impeccably clean and breakfast was delicious as well! A great to stay in Quito!
