Hotel Sandmelis

No complaints about this hotel. The location in northern Quito is a ways from downtown, but it is only a half-hour from the airport, traffic permitting. Close to Shyris Avenue buses and a 5 minute walk from the Jipijapa (Hippie-hoppa) stop for the Ecovia bus, a kind of express which runs in its own traffic lane through downtown and on to the south end of town. Quiet neighborhood with some eateries and a supermarket nearby. Highlight: A continental breakfast is included that comes with delicious scrambled eggs.

It’s a really good place, really clean and confortable, the food is tasty, secure and resting place and the location it’s near from the all places. I have to travel to Quito every month and it’s my prefer hotel Sandmelis

By US standards, the room was small, but it was comfortable and clean. The bathroom shower was outstanding (great water pressure and hot water!). The staff was exceptional! They accommodated our request for a super early checkout and found coffee for us at that ungodly hour. Breakfast was included and better than some five-star places I've been to. If you're coming from the US, expect the altitude to kick you in the butt, especially climbing the stairs to your room. Also, bring your own bottled water (the staff provides one glass and one quart of purified water -- not enough for altitude adjustments). We also had our own travel pillows, which made the beds perfectly comfy. Highly recommend for a VIP experience in the city with easy access to taxis.

Tucked into a busy urban area, the hotel makes the most of its space. Our room was smaller than typical U.S. rooms (we had a double bed and a single bed for our family). What it lacked in space, it made up for with an awesome shower (great water pressure and temp) and functional bathroom! The room was very clean too. We would have liked more than a quart of filtered water in the room and more than one glass, too; the pillows were flat (but we travel with our own, so no big deal) and the city noise was audible through the windows, but not too bad -- our only criticisms. THE BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING! Fresh and hot food, with tip-top service. And the front desk staff was SUPER HELPFUL and friendly! We were glad we chose this boutique-style hotel and we'd recommend it to others.

The hotel is very clean, rooms are very comfortable. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast is wonderful and the cook is very accommodating. The hotel is also located in a great place - a pharmacy is right around the corner; good restaurants within walking distance; a supermarket right across the street. We also took 3 tours that left from the Parque de la Carolina, which is about 1 mile (1.5 km) - a brisk 15-minute walk from the hotel, so also very convenient. Can't recommend Hotel Sandmelis enough!

Small hotel with big charm. All staff members are dedicated to providing a comfortable experience. Ask and they are happy to try to assist. Our friend became ill with a cold. The staff was happy to refrigerate and then later heat up, some soup we had purchased for her. We had a business person visit us and they allowed us to meet in their dining area. Very happy to assist with tour arrangements too. Small rooms, but we were not in the room to much anyway. Breakfast was eggs to order, pastry/bread, fresh squeezed juice, fresh fruit and good coffee and tea! They have a woman on staff, Patricia, that serves as there shuttle driver. We had the hotel arrange for her to pick us up at 1:00am. It was nice to have a female pick us (two females) up at night.

Buen hotel!

I was on vacation and my school picked this hotel. I stayed here for four nights. It's a nice hotel. The owners are great down to earth people. Its clean and well kept. I just recommend getting a room looking to the outside of the hotel not in because some rooms have a window looking at a wall in the middle of the hotel. Really good Breakfast!!!! Also I forgot my wallet at their hotel. They found my wallet and shipped it to America. That's why I have to right this review. They are the nicest people in the world.

I stayed at Hotel Sandmelis while traveling as a Spanish language educational group with 25 of my students and 4 other chaperones. Though the rooms were small and basic, they were clean and well-kept. The staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. The continental breakfast included eggs, a croissant with jam, and hot water or milk with coffee syrup or hot chocolate powder to add. This hotel is located near heavily trafficked roads, so it may not be ideal for a romantic getaway or family with children, as you could hear the sounds of the city most of the day and night.

An extremely friendly staff combined with clean living conditions sums up Hotel Sandmelis. The breakfast is amazing and it is located near tons of restaurants and shops. I have stayed here several times and they only take away is that it can get loud at night because it is right off a main road, and also be warned that there are no elevators. It is a 5/5 hotel because it is safe, clean, and a welcoming environment while being a cheaper option. Would stay here anytime!
