"Value for money"

6.0

Basic hotel, but adequate. For the price you won't find a lot of other choices. Especially the location is a pro. The Kaag isle is like a musuem. Houses still look as if time stood still here. The quit so near Amsterdam is amazing.

"Very pleasant and clean hotel with horrible staircase"

6.0

We stayed in this hotel conveniently situated nerar the tulips and Keukenhof. Pleasant environment surrounded by lakes. At least 6 Good Restaurants at walking distance from hotel Rooms spacious, clean, quite but only accessible by an outdoor staircase similar to escape stairs applied in New York and other big USA cities. Staff pleasant and large Dutch breakfast buffet included in price of room. Access to island by small ferryboat (capacity 4 cars only), distance 50yards at the price of US$5.00 returntrip to be paid each day you stay in the hotel. Boat price compensated by waiver of tourist tax organized by Hotel Owner.

"Homely hotel in Kaag"

8.0

We stayed here for two nights last week, the hotel is basic but very welcoming, the breakfast was of good quality, the room was compact but had the bits one needed, the beds were a little on the firm side and a bit close to the flight path which did at times make sleep a little difficult. When one considers its offer versus its very competitive room rates then it is good value for money - yes, we would use it again.

"Nice hotel on a great little island"

8.0

We stayed here for one night and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The island is cute and only accessible by ferry. The pros: We had a family room with a set of bunk beds that were situated in a way that afforded everyone a bit of privacy. This was very nice. The room was basic but clean and the shower was surprisingly roomy for a hotel of this class and it had plenty of hot water with good pressure. Breakfast was simple and nothing fancy. The cons: It was a bit loud with a surprising amount of road and food traffic right outside of our room (we were in an end room). The hotel can't control this but the planes flying overhead kept waking us up. Maybe we'd get used to it after another night. The wi-fi was free but the signal was pretty weak. Would stay here again though.

"Nice basic hotel on pittoresk island"

4.0

The "Kaag" Island is the attraction for boat rent, walkaround, pittoresk villag, to spend the day and night. The hotel provides you a place to sleep. All basics are there but it is at basic level. The room on second floor are small. 2 confortable beds, with about 1 meter space left and right. A small bathroom with a fine shower and toilet. Mirror is outside the bathroom and thats it. Breakfast is even for Dutch standards very basic. Bread, butter, cheese, ham, jam, watery orange juise, coffee and thats it. Service is friendly but a bit "shy". Not a feeling that they loved their jobs.

"The only hotel on the island."

4.0

Nice Island, friendly people, good parking place. You get a small attention as shampoo, however you cannot expect more for 60 euro. I was presently surprised about the free Wi-Fi it worked without password problems. 3,06 to 6,24Mbps download, 0,79 to 0,88Mbps upload. So you can Skype and use FaceTime without interruptions. However for this price you cannot expect a lot of luxury, the breakfast is very basic: smoked ham, hard boiled egg, cheese and some pre packed marmalades. But plentiful though. You get a map of the island with restaurants, and that is a nice Touch. The hotel in general needs a big upgrade. I would not spend my holiday inside. If you use the bathroom you must close the big curtains otherwise you make the show, especially at night. My room was upstairs accessible by outside stairs (I presume very slippery in winter and while raining), sound installation is poor, so you can hear everyone passing by even cars and aeroplanes. So in general if you use the hotel just to sleep and all the rest of your time is spent outside on the lake it's very nice.

"Beautiful location, hotel sub par"

6.0

I was not impressed with Hotel Orion. The room was quite expensive and very plain. The room was for 2 adults and 2 children and was quite big, however it wasn't very clean. There were bugs around all the window sills, the room was dusty and the floors were too dirty to let our youngest crawl around. The appealing parts to the hotel was the picturesque location and they offered a decent breakfast. The downfalls, included a dirty room, having to take a ferry to get to the hotel which was 5 Euro round trip, and check out was 10:30. Overall, I was not impressed with this hotel. I have stayed in places closer to Amsterdam for much less money that were far nicer! Only stay here if you want to experience a Dutch village. Otherwise stay closer to the airport for about the same price and more amenities and greater convenience!

"Cute, Quaint Place to Stay"

8.0

It may be the only hotel on the island, but it does not treat you that way. First - let me clarify, the island is not very big and most of it is farm. And it is really close to everything else. But I found myself longingly fantasizing about living there. I imagine everyone knows everyone else. The hotel itself was very nice. The woman that owns the hotel is very nice - take the time to talk to her. Ask her questions, she seemed to warm up nicely. She has lived there for a very long time and seems very happy. I can only imagine how wonderful life must be there. And do not be afraid to ask her where to eat. There are only five restaurants on the island itself and two just across the canal (a 20 second ferry ride). I imagine all of them are pretty good, but we only had one night so only one meal. The hotel shower had the seam common problem we experience all along the trip - water that would cycle through hot and cold water. It was the least noticeable here though so it was not uncomfortable. The biggest draw back is the noise. You will hear everything outside your door. We had a room just two doors down from the stairs so we heard everyone else coming and going as they passed our room. It was okay later into the evening, but it could be distracting early on. The breakfast room is all it has been reviewed to be - the little buffet is included in the room price and is simply a continental style breakfast, but with ample choices. I would stay here again and even consider using it as a base to launch other trips - but for a weekend escape, you can never go wrong with an island in a large lake.
