Torrs Warren Country House Hotel

We were told by locals and online reviews the facility was closed sometime ago. No notice was sent and we were left without a place. Not sure how this happens?

We arrived at the hotel to find it closed down having gone into administration. We had to try and find alternative accommodation that evening. No-one had got in touch with me to let me know that the hotel was closed down. Shocking start to our holiday! Not impressed.

This property had been closed down and we were not informed by yourselves.

I booked the Torrs Wrren Hotel on 14th Januaryfor B&B for Sunday 19th. Free cancellation before 10.00 on 16th. Pay at Torres Warren. On 15th I received the following wia Hotels.com: Dear Guest; For your arrival for Friday 19/01 please make your way to our sister hotel The Harbour House in Portpatrick , where we have a room allocated for you. We have tried to upgrade your room type & we hope that you enjoy the Harbour House Hotel. We have allocated to you a 2 bedroom Apartment . Breakfast is included, delivered to your room & is Continental. On the same day 15th as far I remember I replied to this pointing out that I was booked for SUNDAY 19th not Friday and asking for confirmation. I also rang both the Torres Warren and The Harbour House Hotel but got nobody on the phone. I left a message at Torres Warren again asking for confirmation that it was for Sunday.. No reply On 15th at 13.53 my account was debited by the hotel one day before I could have cancelled for free. I was unaware of this for a day or two. On 18th I had a telephone call to confirm that I was booked into the Harbour House Hotel as above. The caller did not seem to be aware of my communications sand apologized for the mistake on the date. Anyway I accepted the apology and the booking having looked up the reviews on Hotels.com On 19th we made our way to Portpatrick to the Harbour House Hotel. The situation was in a negative way not as expected -entrance shabby, breakfast very poor, bar closed at 20

Everything you need to know about a place you can tell from the reception you receive when you arrive. I was greeted by my key in an envelope and a number to call if there was an emergency. The hotel is described as welcoming - not true as the only person I met was at breakfast. The lights were off in the reception rooms when I explored after check in, so I didn’t feel comfortable sitting in there. Breakfast was adequate - toast, cereal, yogurt, etc. Room was big (I was in the Pink Room). The calking in the shower needs replacing as it’s mouldy.

The room was large, bed comfortable and Shower good Down side room was not the cleanest. Both bath and sink looked like they hadn't been clean, lots of marks on blinds, floor and mold on window frame of bedroom.

Gentleman that showed us to our room was welcoming, didn’t see him after that. The lady that served us breakfast had an unfortunate manner. Asked first morning if I could have scrambled egg instead of fried she said it comes fried sir! The second morning she asked us what we wanted we said full cooked she said No then explained ran out of gas. This should have been explained first. Third morning the same no gas. So very limited choice. From the beginning decided not to have dinner at the hotel, felt very uncomfortable in the restaurant. On checking out no-one at reception so we could say about very loose hot water tap in room. A bag of medication had been left in a drawer in the room from previous people, so room hadn’t been checked properly for cleanliness. A disappointing stay wouldn’t go back or recommend. Found an amazing place not far away in Sandhead fantastic food and service so would recommend this instead.

Fantastic hotel, great staff really warm and friendly. Had a perfect night sleep on both occasions
