"Leisure visit in Qingdao to visit some old friends"

10.0

We stayed for 2 nights in early October 2012 and as a 1st time user of both Hotels.com and this hotel we were highly satisfied. The rooms were beautifully different from the standard chain hotel "boxes" and the communal areas tastefully arty. The bathrooms were again a bit different, but great, our shower could have done with a bit more oomph however. The breakfast was Chinese style, but with enough western blandness to satisfy my son (13), my 16 year old daughter rates this as the best breakfast on our 2 week China trip, she is a bit more adventurous. The hotel is located in a very local Chinese area of Qingdao, splendid for us as we came to see China. I am not sure how convenient it is for attractions as we were driven everywhere, but the taxis are dirt cheap anyway. The standard of English in the hotel staff was rather low, but much better than my Chinese and added to the authenticity and certainly did not constrain us. If I am back in Qingdao on holiday, I will definitley stay here again

"excellant for exploring Qingdao"

10.0

The CHINA arts and culture hotel is an absolute gem. Small but very well located. Resturants just around the corner. Also close to all major banks. The hotel is excellant in all regards, small but very exciting. artwork abounds everywhere including the rooms, each is different. The staff is beyond excellant they helped me with maps and adresses. They always have at least on or two that speak and read English on every shift. they help me at great leanth to arrange trips cabe and to help me find a number of sights in Qingdao

"No air condition"

4.0

The hotel management said they never turn on the central air condition system during the mid autumn season. However it's HOT during that days and there's only one window but it was blocked by the wall!

"Unusual hotel"

8.0

Hotel is also an art-gallery / souvenir art shop. Rooms were stylish with an unusual layout with the bathroom in the middle of the room, with walls around it. Internet was a bit intermittent.

"Excellent value for money"

10.0

Definitely a great and unique boutique hotel. Location is great and convenient. Staff service is warm, welcoming and helpful. For this value, they offer free breakfast, free internet connection and free daily fruit pack. I think it is reasonably the best value I came across so far. The decor may be found a little different from typical western brands, but you'll love it after a while. Daily housekeeping service is fine. Breakfast buffet offers good variety of chinese and western food and beverages, and I particularly love their coffee. I stayed there for 5 nights and will certainly rate it as my top choice for my visit to Qingdao in future.

"Definitely Chinese, in all the best ways."

8.0

This hotel is great for anyone who is bored of the big (soulless) international chains. Charming rooms, each with a slightly different character. The staff are very friendly and always ready to help, even in English. The breakfast is also very good, with both Chinese and Western food and drink (including real coffee!). However, I would not recommend an attic room in winter because it gets very cold and the ceiling is made of glass, providing no insulation. Hot showers were good, room heating almost non-existent.

"Cool funky hotel in Qingdao"

8.0

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were very patient with my broken mandarin (though very few spoke much English). The hotel itself was very cool, with lots of interesting art which they claimed was legitimate Chinese artifacts (some of which I didn't doubt they were). It was the tail-end of winter when we went, so the cool moat around the restaurant and hotel were not filled with water, but I bet it is really neat in the summertime when it is. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with lots of choices both western and eastern, as well as an espresso machine that made decent espresso. Our room was nice overall, but the heater didn't work, which made for somewhat cold nights (when we were there in early March). We were on the top floor, and we were told that it takes a while for the heat to get up there (but it never really seemed to get there). Each of the rooms are a little different, which is fun. Our shower was my favorite part. Overall a very good hotel, and would highly recommend it for the price, and for the character. When taking a cab there, make sure you give them the written address that the hotel has for you to print out, as most of them think that it is just a restaurant, and they might try to tell you that the hotel part doesn't exist.

"Laozhuancun China Community Art and Culture Hotel"

10.0

I absolutely loved this hotel. The design aesthetic in the lobby and the rooms can't be beat. Staff is very very friendly and very helpful. Their English language is somewhat limited, but between my sketchy Mandarin and their decent English we were able to make things work. Make sure to get one of the large room rooms on what I think might be the 3rd floor or above. Spend the extra money because the small rooms are tiny. I had a great room. My only complaint is that they don't have wifi in the room. You have to get it in the lobby, which during the winter (when I stayed) is tough because they don't the heat on in the lobby. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the old German concession this might not be the place for you. It is a 30 minute bus ride - easy bus ride - that only costs 1 yuan. I had no issues taking the bus.

"I would be back any day - absolutelly unique place"

10.0

I could not think of a better price/value option in Qingdao! Should be your first choice if you are tired of the large international chain towers. It has everything from a price included super breakfast (doubles as lunch for me) to great service (free bottled water, fruit for afternoon tee and free internet) and friendly staff. Highly recommended!
