Hampton Inn Matamoras

We have stayed at this hotel about 10 times over a decade while visiting family in the area. I usually allow for some slack on the typical service as they are likely a bit short staffed over a holiday. That being said I have noticed a drop in the quality and service standards which showed up in multiple places this year. The good: 1) Warm and relatively large pool for a random suburban hotel. 2) Breakfast options are decent with a variety of hot and cold items. The hot items rotate day by day to avoid boredom. 3) The room is decent sized and the beds comfortable. Places for improvement: 1) The general level of upkeep in the common areas needs a bit of work. A little bit worn, maybe a little bit dustier than it should be - just an overall feeling of wear. 2) When we tried to check in - we attempted to split our stay (2 nights) over two different credit cards to take advantage of credits but were told that something was wrong with the system and it couldn't be done. I understand that this might be the case but given how empty the check in area was at that time - it felt like there wasn't any real urgency to find a solution. The folio could have been split into two and charged separately as an example. I understand that there are challenges with systems sometimes but in this case it cost my family money which is unfortunate. I was tired so I left it alone hoping to find another worker on another day who might be more helpful but didn't see one. 3) There were only hand towel sized towels at the pool when we went and so I stopped by the front desk and was told "this was all we had" which is just not true. They told me to just use what was there but I insisted that this would just result in wet floors after which she shuffle back to the laundry room to go look for more and did come back with a stack of normal pool towels. 4) The breakfast attendant was working fast but not necessarily in the most efficient way - waiting for people to flag her down to tell her that things were running out. For example, all three of the coffees were out at the same time and for over 30 minutes during the 8-8:30 hour at breakfast. It felt like the rotation of staying just ahead of things running out by starting the cooking/brewing/unpacking felt off which resulted in some empty breakfast stations. Overall - an ok hotel that is probably in need of a bit of staff training + supplemental staff to manage one of the busiest times of the year and when you are making an impression on a large number of potential clients. It has been noticeably better in years past with staff that are more adept at managing problems and guests so we'll have to see how it goes in future stays - perhaps it won't be my go -to for the area much longer.

Location is great… the facility is in dire need of remodel… all the carpets are old and worn out. The most disturbing part of our stay was the dirty beds. The sheets had dirty spots on them so we pulled them back to find filthy mattresses with what appeared to be pee stains dog fur or hair and other debris. The fact that house keeping can take sheets off of these beds put new sheets on and allow people to sleep on them is extremely disturbing. Always make sure to pull sheets off a hotel bed before you get settled into a room. I lt will tell you everything you need to know about the place you are staying

The breakfast was great! Many options for kids or adults! I love that it’s a 4 hour window for breakfast too! Not everyone wakes up super early so it works out for everyone! The pool/area was very clean! We misplaced our key to our room and they didn’t even ask questions, just gave us new ones. All the staff was very friendly. Location was great, right next to a super market, Walmart, and a few restaurants too! We usually book a cheap hotel but we wanted to spend a few extra bucks to get a nicer one and it was well worth it! It wasn’t smelly or dirty like we are used to. Overall wonderful experience.

This hotel is just okay. We stay one night a few times a year on our way to someplace else. The woman at the front desk when we checked in (no name tag- probably for a reason) was abysmal. She ignored us at first but then took my id and typed and typed and typed, finally I asked if the system was slow…no, she was working on something else, not checking me in. Ugh We finally got our keys and I asked if we could get some water, she said no, we were only silver members. I know we’re only silver but on the same trip where we stayed at two other Hampton Inns we didn’t even have to ask, they just offered it.

It’s a great location and certainly improvement over some of the other hotels in the area

Turn sky there was a fish like odor throughout the entire building. Whether it was food or water related, the staff was unsure.

It was a really nice motel, I would stay there again and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay. It was really clean, the breakfast was good. It's conveniently located near a restaurant, gas station, movie theater and stores.
