Hotel Waldeck

Very clean and newly renovated bathrooms. Very compact rooms. Our room was above the main entrance. Area where guest of the hotel and restaurant can smoke. Hotel is just below a busy road. Combination didn't give us a relaxing 'forest' experience.

Lovely place!

I was a bit disappointed with this hotel. Older and poor quality considering the price. The room had a small patio with no privacy and a view of the street, there was limited parking, and dinner was ok, but also overpriced in my experience of the area. It was also a challenge to find - it is in the Feldberg region, NOT Feldberg village. But the staff were great, the room was very clean (but cramped) and had a minibar, and the breakfast offered a wide assortment of hot and cold items. Very nice people, but not a very comfy stay.

Our family stayed here over a World Cup weekend, so there weren't many guests. We were on the top floor in a room with modern furnishings, a double bed plus a pull out for our 10 year old. Our only problem was that it was stuffy and humid in this room. We opened all 3 windows, but were forced to close them when a big thunder and rain storm came at bedtime and the hotel is close to the major roadway and you can here cars zooming by at night. The restaurant is really the highlight of this hotel. The couple who run this hotel are chef and restaurant staff and each night make wonderful dishes with chanterelle mushrooms. I was told they forage for wild mushrooms in the fall to put on their menu. They spoke excellent English and we appreciated all there advice about where to find adventures during our short visit. There is a nice short hike right in front of the hotel that goes around a small lake that we enjoyed after we checked in. This is a quiet area, so you will have to drive to find more good restaurants or a grocery store down the road.

Our experience started very badly because the address given by Expedia gave us a street and an area Feldberg. There are at least three hotels Waldeck in a the large area covered by the description Feldberg. The booking should have specified the village in which the hotel is situated, namely Altaglashutten. It took us two hours to find the hotel.

I stayed there while on a skiing trip at Feldberg, about 30 bus minutes away. The restaurant on Saturday evening seems popular. I just had the Wurstsalat but it was good as was the breakfast spread next morning. Wifi was accessible but I had to go back to reception and ask for the details, they weren't offered when I check in. I lost connection a few times and had to log in again. Speed was slow. The walls are a bit thin, could hear the neighbour flushing the toilet, but it was OK. Very quiet neighbourhood. Size of room and bathroom were adequate. The church bells in the centre of town stopped at night. The Feldberg bus leaves from the stop a few minutes' walk away from the hotel at 08:43 but breakfast doesn't start until 08:00, so had a rushed breakfast to be able to still pack the last things, check out (the owner had to be called from his private quarters, which took a few minutes) and get to the bus stop. In all a pleasant experience, just the breakfast is a bit late, 07:30 would have been perfect.

Good value for money. Bed was comfortable, service was good and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely come back.

Location was great, staff was really fantastic. I really liked the quality of service at the hotel, by the second breakfast I didnt even have to order coffee! On the second day they even helped me get my car out in the snow. The only thing that was less then stellar was the bed, not sure if this is just German style I'm unaccustomed to but it was very soft and had no support. Otherwise great hotel, good food, location, service, atmosphere will definately visit again.
