We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel in the center of San Jose. The onsite restaurant has delicious food, and the waitstaff is very friendly. The pool area is lovely... in the late afternoon birds gather in the flowering tree and sing. Next time I would book a larger room than we did, with chairs on the terrace. Great location. comfortable room in a historic building that has character. Bed was very comfortable with nice quality linens. Breakfast isnt available until 7:30 so plan if you have an early start.

At first glance the hotel will remind you of being in Mykonos Greece with the white adobe style walls and beautiful bougainvillea. As a Diamond for life I thought we might be upgraded but no such luck but I understand if a hotel is busy but it didn't appear that busy. We loved the pool area but the hot tub was only luke warm. Many other guests kept requesting them to turn up the temperature but it never got above luke warm. We could live with the jacuzzi because the hotel was so cute. It was the Gold/Diamond breakfast that was stunning for all the wrong reasons. I have spent over 1300 nights at Hiltons worldwide and this was the cheapest breakfast I've ever received. Why would you treat your loyal customers to this? Your offer of a "reduced" price for 2 eggs is just plain cheap and insulting. In addition the service stunk. So many people but poor service. We were so insulted by the menu we choose to stop buying any more meals or cocktails at the hotel. We were actually mad that we bought multiple cocktails the day we arrived. You can getter better ones for less in the square. We meet other Gold/Diamond members in the pool who felt the same way. As for the rooms they are done in a basic adobe style, not large but cute. If you are a light sleeper be aware the wall AC is noisy with the sounds of water rushing in it. There is no fridge or microwave. I recommend asking for a room on the top floor. Our first floor room sounded like elephants were on the ceiling. This went on well into the night. If this is your first time in San Jose you do not need more than 1 or 2 nights at best but make sure one of those nights is a Thursday night for the Art Walk. When we return we plan on staying at one of the other beautiful hotels in the area like the Drift. We feel no loyalty to the Tropicana.
