Lovely Garden! Has traditional but luxurious feel. But wifi is not working. The activity areas are dilapidated, although working.

"Historic hotel"

10.0

We were visiting laoag to see friends - and never having been there I asked for a recommendation. They suggested “fort illicandia”. So we booked. A week prior to traveling I read trip-advisor to see what to expect - I was shocked - I nearly cancelled The hotel is very large, has character - history and a certain charm. The staff were all helpful, pleasant and competent. Checkin/checkout was smooth; Our room quiet, comfortable and with decent ac. The beds were firm, linen clean and good quality. We ate with friends for breakfast (I think we paid 380 peso per head for the guests) - it was a good start to the day. The evening we had a delicious meal in the Chinese restaurant. I would gladly stay here again.

"Short family outing of 6pax for 3d2n"

8.0

The place itself is very nice. Kind of haunting but if you apprceiate architecture/interior design, you'll like the place. The staff are very helpful and welcoming, they are the very definition of filipino hospitality. We booked 2 deluxe rooms (3pax) w/ free breakfast. The rooms are nice and spacious, my favorite area is the balcony. Utilities like the t&b and tv can be updated. There is no bidet so be prepared. Free breakfast is great. Their bread is very addicting. Pool- olympic size and kept well. The shower area needs to be updated and kind of far from the pool area Zoo- sad. As an animal lover, i do not support this. Beach- the view of the west open sea is very nice. Sand is soft to the feet and nice to walk on. The shore however is dirty due to the atv tracks and oil spills from the vehicles. Archery, golf, shooting range - it's okay. Great assortment of activities Vicinity- we chose this hotel because it's the nicest one we could find that is closest to the sand dunes (our main reason for travelling up north) 10min drive away. Overall, it's nice to stay here bec of the staff, architecture, closeness to atv sand dunes and their bread. N.b.- politically speaking, if you are a yellow/pink supporter, you will not be happy with the gross display of the resort.

I like its timeless structure style. However, it needs a lot of updating! There has to be an elevator for guests and staff to use!

Needs improvement in their amenities. The phone in the room is not working. Lack of face towels, lack of bath towels, not enough bathroom supplies, very thin toilet papers. Not enough hot water in the shower. There’s no elevator going to the second floor . The breakfast is excellent.

"Disappointing experience from a once glamourous hotel"

4.0

Yes - Fort Ilocandia captivates you with its rustic setting, activities and overall feel. However, the hotel itself is absolutely poor. Bathroom shower is dreadful. Carpet in rooms looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Service is terrible. Phones doesn't work. Room service in-room dining is the worst. We tried calling a mobile number because their in-room phones do not work. Tried calling for 7 times; no answer. So we had to go to the restaurant area. What greeted us is a 15 min wait before someone took our order. Worst - they asked us to pay in cash instead of charging it in our room. We're booked for 2 more days, so there's absolutely no reason why it can't be charged to our room. Sadly, Fort Ilocandia doesn't live up to its name and fame. Its former glory is long gone. An old hotel would have been nice if the service is exceptional (ie Hotel Luna or The Manor). Fort Ilocandia's service is absolutely terrible.
