Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

I have been going to Kilaguni for over 40 years! It is a magical place!

Great view of Kilimanjaro! All rooms were spick and span. I organised a surprise birthday cake with the traditional accompaniment of the staff singing and clapping which was perfectly orchestrated! Cake was delicious!!! In true Serena fashion, all the staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was not as good as usual. The dining hall/lounge are looking a little tired… also the tea and coffee service was never properly stocked… Too many tour drivers mingling with guests.

The first night’s room was very basic for the price . Lots of insects came through the rip in the window screen and mosquito netting over the sleeping area. To the lodge’s credit, they changed my room when I raised it to them.

The location of the property is outstanding. It has a fantastic view in front of restaurant with constant wildlife to enjoy that are coming to the watering holes. On a clear day Mt Kilimanjaro can be seen. The staff was very friendly. The buffet had a nice variety to choose from. We enjoyed the balcony view from our room. Our parents were unexpectedly upgraded to a suite which they enjoyed very much.

For the price of the stay we feel the quality of food could have been a little higher. The high price limited how long we could stay.

Very welcoming staff and friendly staff. The location at the edge of the national park makes this place one of the best Voi options.

The maintenance of the infrastructure needs some refresh. As well bathroom update.

Magical! Yes didn’t need to go on a game drive to see animals, they all group by group visit the waterhole and we could see them from the comfort of our room or the bar and restaurant. It was wonderful. The property has a big garden and a nice pool as well. Nice and kind staff as all Kenyans. The food was good and we really enjoyed our stay

Honestly the communication on booking.com with them was that bothering that I didn’t expect we will be taken cared good if we arrive there. They did not reply my messages regarding transfers. I had to write them over and over. I even tried to call them so they notice me. Finally I could get an email address and communication went smoother afterwards. The information on their page is wrong. They wrote the closest airport to the lodge is amboseli, and the transfer is free. But in fact the closest airstrip to them is Kilaguni. So we had to change our flight ticket otherwise we had to drive for 3 hours from Amboseli and pay 350. Also I told them about the wrong information on their page they haven’t fixed it yet!

Really lovely, peaceful grounds with excellent (but unobtrusive) staff. Our game driver was excellent and the buffet meals were all exceptionally tasty (including the Kenyan coffee on offer…the best we have even at more expensive safari camps/lodges). The watering hole is a highlight and the grounds are beautiful.
