"Check before you book not worth th money"

4.0

Hotel looked lovely and very modern. Room was ok we paid an upgrade from ยฃ150 to ยฃ170 when we got to the room there was a basket of snacks on the table we thought this must be what you get for your extra ยฃ20. Hubbie had a packet of crisps and a bag of peanuts. It was not until the next morning when we were checking out that I found the price list right at the back of the basket. ยฃ1.90 for each item and that was the only time we saw this price list. Can I just say the girls that were on reception both days were lovely and chatty so thatโ€™s one thing you get right. BREAKFAST well it was very poor. We got down at 9.30 as it was Saturday breakfast is 8am to 10 am. The waiter looked like he would rather be anywhere but the breakfast room in the Brisbane Hotel when we asked him for a table for 2 he said anywhere you want but all the low tables had not been cleared hence we had to clear and set up. in the table ourselves. We had to set our own table as I am unable to sit at the high tables so swapped our cutlery and crockery to a low table. There was very little left on the continental table. We would expect to be able to get what everyone has been ordered as we paid the same money. I had French toast with bacon. Bacon was so over cooked you could not cut it with the knife. Hubbie had eggs royal both eggs were stone hard when they should have been runny and a lack of salmon with this dish. The only thing that looked fresh was the pea shoots on the top. Coffee tasted like strong tea as it was so weak and tea was cold. We should have been offered fresh pots on sitting down and it is dangerous to be carrying in this case Luke warm drinks round the dining room, just as well they were not piping hot. I then had to ask for some toast never offered it and no mention of it on the menu thatโ€™s a staple at breakfast time. Also there are no accessible invalid rooms. We were told the building is listed and therefore they could not put a lift in when the refurb was done. We will never be back in the Brisbane Hotel again we were so very disappointed with the service for such a high price.

Staff friendly and helpful

Having to move room, due to room not being ready, also we were offered room on second floor, as l had visable mobility issues, l though this total lack of thought, also, no terastial television. No offer of evenings meals in a hotel, that is a first for us

"Book With Care"

2.0

I am currently taking legal action in relation to a dispute with Brisbane House Hotel, Largs, Scotland, over the retention of a ยฃ1,034 wedding deposit. I'm taking this action, as I feel it's my moral duty. This matter concerns a young couple close to me, whose wedding had been booked for October 2028. The decision to cancel that booking was not taken lightly. It followed the diagnosis of the brideโ€™s 92-year-old grandfather with an aggressive and rapidly progressing form of dementia. In response to this diagnosis, the couple made the difficult decision to bring forward their wedding so that her grandfather would be able to attend and meaningfully experience the day while he still can. More than two yearsโ€™ notice of cancellation was provided to the venue. Despite this, the hotel has declined to return the deposit, relying on a contractual term stating that it is non-refundable. I do not accept that this position is fair or reasonable in the circumstances. Given the length of notice provided, I believe the venue has had ample opportunity to rebook the date and mitigate any potential loss. I have requested clarification as to how the retained sum reflects actual costs incurred. So far this clarification has not been forthcoming. This is not simply about one familyโ€™s situation. I believe this raises a broader issue about how non-refundable deposit clauses are applied, particularly in cases involving serious and unforeseen personal circumstances. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, contract terms must be fair and proportionate, and I intend to have this properly examined. I have now instructed solicitors to pursue recovery of the funds. However, I remain open to resolving this matter amicably and without the need for court proceedings. I am also seeking transparency from the organisation regarding how such situations are handled, and whether discretion can be exercised in exceptional cases.
