Hotel Callecanes

Everything was very clean, pool was pleasant if small, nice garden to sit in though it was too cold when we were there.

The breakfast was just OK. Bread not very fresh, coffee from a thermos. Ordered to sit only at a two-person table in the empty dining room, at which point a small portion of butter would be delivered to the table. What put me off was the attitude from the staff. Everything seemed to inconvenience them ( at least the older couple. The younger ones were friendly). Don't use that door, don't take those stairs, leave your passport and 20 euros for swim towels (though that proved not to be necessary), only sit at a two-person table in the breakfast room.... Large signs ALL OVER in the breakfast room reminding us not to take food away. The weird rationing of the butter. I certainly didn't want to disturb other guests by using the wrong door at night, though not stealing food I had already figured out for myself. I'm sure the hotel business is hard and some people are inconsiderate and take advantage. But why not give your guests the benefit of the doubt and treat them like adults? A bit of tact and friendliness wouldn't hurt either. I had tea at breakfast, and would have liked a second pot but was afraid to ask.

Prijs kwaliteit zeer goed hotel. Vriendelijke ontvangst. Kamer zeer net. Pluspunt is zeker een duik in het zwembad. Laat u niet misleiden door de buitenkant die industrieel oogt.

We have stayed here several times before. The hotel is family-run and is ideally located for us when travelling from the UK into mainland Europe. The owners are very friendly and everything in the hotel is of a very high quality - the facilities, the room, the bed and the food. The hotel is also ideally placed for visiting Ypres and the WW1 cemataries.

Most of the staff were friendly. The room was large. Fantastic shower and nice breakfast. Free parking. We didn't realise we were too early for check in, but they accommodated us anyway.

We appeared to be the only guests in the hotel besides a very large, professional cycling team. When we tried to enter the restaurant for dinner we were told to go away as all the food had been prepared for the team and we 'wouldn't like it'. When we asked if we could have something else we were told the chef had already gone home. The hotel is quite isolated, so we had limited options. No air conditioning in the room, so we had to open all the windows, which meant we were kept awake by the cycling team doing maintenance into the night, then woken early the next morning by them. They also ate most of the breakfast items, and we had leftovers. We were actually quite excited when we saw the team (we are cycling fans), but they overran the hotel. We may have had a different experience in a different time.

Lovely place but found it slightly difficult to find. Wasn’t aware it was near a main road but didn’t really matter. Very clean. Only issue was the room was too hot. Window opened but didn’t cool it down. Really could do with AC or at least a fan. Difficult to park as a cycling team had taken over everywhere outside! Breakfast wasn’t bad and the owner was very friendly.

Address is not correct in your documents so Waze and Google directions NOT accurate. Address is Callicanesweg 12, 8978 WATOU Belgium. There are 4 large petrol stations on Belgian side of frontier which is along middle of the road. So continuous line of heavy lorries queuing to fill up and return to the motorway between Lille and The coast.

Very nice hotel, pool was very welcome after a long day's drive, sadly it was only a quick stop over we arrived late and left in the morning so didn't get the full experience but what we did experience was excellent, room was great, bed was one of the best I've slept in abroad, I will stay again if I'm passing

Location wouldn't be for some as it's abit in the middle of nowhere but there seemed to be alot of cyclists there and for that I would say it's perfect, and it's only 30 mins from the coast.
