Monarch Valley Inn Marina at Monterey Bay

My family and I arrived around 8pm for check in and was greeted by a man with blondish hair who was extremely friendly and gave great recommendations for things to do in Monterey Bay! He also told us to stop by in the morning for breakfast! My family and I were driving Hwy 1 and stopping in cities along the way. In the am, I came in for breakfast with 2 children! A man was seated at a desk and a woman was standing close to the desk. I stood there awkwardly for about 45 seconds waiting for a greeting, then I told them I was here for breakfast! The woman began asking me, “ Are you staying with us? What room are you in? How did you know about breakfast?” I was standing there with hungry children and responded, “ Is this how you treat your guests that stay at your hotel?” I then gave my name and the room number and proceeded to take out my room key. The woman gave me banana, yogurt, and granola bars. There was no apology, no kindness, or anything for the rude apathetic behavior, and after spending $200 on a room for a night, there’s no reason to treat a mother and her children that way!

This place is in the parking lot of a gas station. Breakfast is served in a paper bag. Loud people at the gas station in the middle of the night. Complete disappointment.

Human hair all over the mattress sheets and pillows. Killed 2 different spiders, 1 on the floor, 1 crawling near the nightstand. Only stayed there for 1 night but would not stay again due to cleanliness.

Property was really nice overall. Can tell recently painted and rooms updated. Biggest issue was when asking for fresh towels, the lady at the front seemed like it was an inconvenience. To have a gas station in the parking lot, was very quiet and no issues.

There was no breakfast nook like it was shown in the pictures. The office area was inside a gas station convenient store. It was a breakfast bag on the go. The reason I picked it was because of the picture of the little breakfast area. I feel like that is false advertising. They should show recent pictures of what it looks like. The picture I was not impressed especially on how much I paid for this room.

Great stay during Speed Fest

The property was ok for what we needed out of this trip. There are no pictures of the front of the property because there is a busy gas station right in front of it. It makes a lot more sense once you get there. I had a really hard time finding the office as well and ended up asking at the gas station front desk. Check in, once I found the desk was fine. The traffic was a bit noisy as it is right on a main road but we were able to sleep just fine. It died down later in the evening. The outdoor flood lights both seemed to be like strobe lights and not properly working and there was obvious repairs being done around the property so it was messy/dirty. Breakfast to go was perfect for what we needed! I don’t know that I’d stay here again (maybe if it was even less expensive) but everything was just ok.

We only had a one night stay while on the road but found this place to be excellent. Rooms were large and comfy. The young man at check in was very friendly and helpful. There were a lot of places nearby including a Trader Joe’s and the price was extremely reasonable for the area. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely book this place again.
