Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Hangzhou

The Wyndham Grand Hotel was our choice during a 5 nights stay in Hangzhou in August 2020. It is a 30 min. taxi ride away from the airport and located a few hundred meters away from the scenic area of the famous Hangzhou West Lake. Rooms are tidy, the breakfast has lots of Chinese and Western choices and they have a well equipped gym. Unfortunately the indoor swimming pool was closed during our stay due to COVID-19, however, it was big and looked well maintained. A few minute walk away from the hotel is the Kerry Center with an attached mall hosting lots of shops, restaurants, and a supermarket. The hotel also had a nice roof top with a view over the lake. What we will remember the most, however, is the staff. Anyone - from the front desk to the waiters and cooks as well as the cleaning ladies - were friendly, professional, and attentive. Especially their guest relations manager Eva is just amazing. She organized tickets for us and helped us with useful advice sending us loads of personalized, helpful information upfront and patiently assisting us with any of our questions. We can definitely recommend this hotel.

I don't speak Chinese. But. I speak fluent French and English. On our first visit, a four-night stay, we had a great experience and were also able to communicate with the staff who were fluent in English. This time, we were even better served, language-wise. As we were checking in, I recognized a French accent with the manager on duty. I introduced myself in English, she was fluent in English. I then suggested that we switch to French and of course, she was happy to do so. From that point on, Eva M was our go-to person. At casual opportunities, we were able to chat and to be both informed about the hotel and what was going on and to just chat about France, traveling, the 'rona, her internship, just be made to feel welcome and at home. As a bonus, she grew up in Anger, in the Loire River valley and I'd lived in Saumur, about 30 km away so we spent a bit of time talkin' castles. All in all a great one night stay. Of couse, secondarily....the room was great. The breakfast was great. The wifi was great. My wife is a teacher and we have to handle all the beaurocratic stuff in Hangzhou so we just stay the night so we don't have to rush around. The Wyndham is perfect for that.

We came to Hangzhou for the Cirque du Soleil and chose this hotel for its perfect location in the city center near West Lake. We weren't disappointed! Eva from Guest Relations happily gave us a late check out as well as recommendations of cafés to visit to enjoy Hangzhou before going back home. We will come again next time!

Tea was fine. Good service. Eva was very nice to me, she took the time to answer my questions about the hotel and even recommended a restaurant. Such a surprise when I realized she could speak French and was also from France. Thank you, I will come again.

Very convenient location, spacious rooms, excellent service. Particular thanks and appreciation to Eva, at the reception, who went out of her way to address all our queries and to make our stay more pleasant. Thanks to her precious advice and her sense of hospitality with an elegant French touch, we could enjoy Hangzhou and explore the surroundings in the best possible conditions. We look forward to our next visit!

Excellent room. Good location. Pleasant check in staff but 20 min. wait is too long. Some hooks, towel rails in bathroom would help.

The health club was closed during my whole stay! They said they would call me a cab so I can go swimming at a different hotel! The pool was one of the main reason I even wanted to book this hotel. I was very disappointed. Even though I did decide to book this extension of one extra night. The rooms and service were really great though but nothing can make up for the pool being closed, I love to swim.

Firstly lost my passport several times. The staff were very confused about the booking. This took about 5 minutes to fix. But then the real problems began. My credit card got put I to about 5 different machines. Some repeatedly. I put my pin in multiple times. On different machines. And a few times o. The same machine. No declined slips. This is when the staff began lying. And I hate this. A different girl was dealing with me for the booking than the girl playing with my card. When I asked what she was doing. She immediately lies to me. And tells me the card was declined. Without looking. Or talking to the other girl. And I don't mean English. Not Chinese or a touch or a look. Just starts arguing. There is now a pending transaction on my card I don't believe to be a deposit. There was a lot of confusion. And I think I got charged twice for the room fee. And then a deposit. Also all off our group was charged different deposits. This maybe is not a problem. Maybe this will all get fixed. It's just disappointing ☹️ Then when I got to my room with all my luggage. The room key did not work.

Great convenient location. very near to Xihu. but the other occupants were relentless smokers who refused to cooperate. not the hotel's fault.
