Northwinds Motel

Very cozy room.

We really enjoyed our stay, the young lady at the desk was super nice and actually straightened out our check in that never went through.

Very quiet and peaceful. It was perfect for me to sit outside, read a book, and listen to the waves hit the shore. Motel is a little dated but quaint. Needs a little updating but it was clean. New refrigerator, ac and microwave.

Monique was the best! We got moved to bells melody, instead of northwinds. The pluses are the staff is friendly. The room smelled clean, and the beds were nice. The property needs maintenance badly. Basic things like a broom to the outside, and paint on the heater vents. The windows and door jams need cleaning and the smooched bugs on the walls need to be cleaned up. There are some electrical issues that should be addressed. We had room 23, so it’s right on the beach, but the deck is in disarray, and the spiders are awful. We will never stay there again, but hopefully they put a little bit of work into it. It has potential to be a nice establishment.

The building is unassuming—don’t let that fool you. The room was immaculate, the bed comfortable, and the shower hot. Walk out your door right onto the beach of Lake Huron, with a view of the bridge and Mackinac Island. The Crown Jewels, however, are Tracy and Monique in the office. They went above and beyond to help us. From straightening out our reservation to helping arrange activities to offering discount tickets. They were FABULOUS!

I have to admit, I was hesitant to reserve a room here because of some of the bad reviews, but this property ended up being perfect for us. The room was dated but clean and safe. The shower had nice hot water and excellent water pressure. The beds and pillows were comfortable and clean. The towels were fresh and huge! The carpet was very clean. The room could use some updates but overall for the price it was better than expected. The staff were helpful and friendly and resolved the few concerns we had quickly. The property is right on the beach with a fire pit so we had a fire every night with a nice view of the bridge and my child enjoyed playing in the water. The beach was clean. I will definitely be back here!

Great, beachfront, no-frills room for cheap that's within walking/biking distance to downtown Mackinaw City. Beds were extremely comfortable. The shower and tile work could use an update, but the showerhead had plenty of force. Wifi was spotty at best. The fact that we could hang out on the beach 20 feet from our door was certainly a selling point for such a low-priced motel.

Northwinds Motel is one of 4 side by side motels that operate through one office. Outdoor sign advertised a price of $69.00, we paid more than double. As I unlocked the door I heard voices, the TV was left on! Immediately noticed the room stunk, it wasn't even close to being clean, some type of electrical cord left on the bed, mold in the shower that is about the size of a broom closet. It was mid 40 degrees outside and the heater did not work. My wife got a whiff and said we were not spending the night in that room! I returned to the office and requested a refund or a different, cleaned room. Attendant yelled at me for using that tone of voice and said she would call 911 (apparently she deemed me a threat). I started to repeat the issues with more detail but before I even finished the second detail she again told me to not use that tone of voice and again mentioned calling 911. I tossed the key on the desk and walked out. As I got near my vehicle she exited the office and once again threatened to call 911, I told her to call them! We got in our vehicle and drove nearly 300 miles back home. What we had hoped to be a pleasant 10th anniversary getaway was short lived. And because of previous similar and other experiences we will NEVER visit Mackinaw City again!

Simple older but clean motel. Great place to rest your head

We loved being given (without our asking) the only room with a deck out back overlooking Lake Huron with a spectacular view of the skies and bridge. When our room key didn't work, the front desk lady was there in a jiffy with a new key. Only thing I didn't like were the spiders in the corners, which were working hard to catch all the gnats that got in when we were unpacking the car. But I guess that's to be expected when it's Sept and there are few guests.
