Northwinds Motel

Clean room but outdated, not bad for the price. Nice beach area but sadly has trash on it and needed to be cleaned. Description on site says pool and hot tub but that is at another motel 2 spots down the road at another property they own. On the plus side, they did offer to give us a room at that property. Very friendly office staff

Basically just a room to sleep. Shower was too short to use. One oulet didn't work. Room was clean and basically functional for that.

When we got to the motel, there was a sign on the long abandoned office to register at the motel down the road. We did that, and the room we got was horrible. Smelled like mold, pubes on the tiny shower’s cracked walls, bugs on the ceiling. We went back and complained. In their defense they gave us a larger, cleaner room. However, this room was also slightly grubby. The shower had barely any pressure, and the water smelled awful. The bathroom linoleum was sticky and bubbling up. The tv in the room would cut out randomly for ten seconds every ten minutes. The advertised “pool and spa” was a rusty pool that had not been cleaned in years chained off with a lock no one seemed to have a key to, but if we swam in it I would guarantee we’d be patient zero for some new disease. To top it off, checkout had a deadline at 9AM. We rolled up at 8:10 to checkout, and the office was locked. There was a sign saying late after hours check ins should go to yet another hotel to receive their key, so we decided to try that. When I got there, I explained the situation. They were like “yeah, it doesn’t open till 8.” It was 8:15. When I said that, they were like whatever and took my key. Not even worth a third of the rate they charge. I’d like to review this hotel, but I can’t. There was a sign in the office (filled with furniture) to check in at another property. I went there, was informed I was going to “a bungalow”. Sounded great. It was like a cabin from the movie “Deliverance”. Gap between door and frame, mystery room with a broken padlock containing a water heater, exposed wires and damaged floor. The shower surround was held together with painter’s tape. The lamp shade was crumpled and broken. The “artwork” on the walls was abundant. By artwork I mean squashed bugs. This room was atrocious. I went back to the office and was given a room in yet another property. This room was adequate. The lady working at the desk was very nice and helpful. Too bad she has to work at such a location. Further investigation led me to the conclusion that this group of hotels frequently engages in this type of “bait and switch”. My next stay in Mackinaw City will NOT be at any hotel owned by this group.

The reviews make it scary to stay but over sheets were clean and the tv worked it's a place to lay your head. Had a AC in room and fridge and microwave and coffee pot. Things needed to be updated and floor in bathroom had soft spots but nothing to not make you wanna stay. Overall it's a cheap hotel to lay your head nothing fancy my only complaint was the lady next door with the kids stomping non stop that could live without

Upon arriving it looks abandon, creepy & front desk area filled with mattresses & lamps, and note on door to check in 2 hotels down. 2 ladies doing the check in were great…..room GROSS not so much! Since I paid couldn’t get money back , everything about this room was nasty….except the mattress, it was new, shower head only blasted water at you it wasn’t a shower at all, I couldn’t bring myself to even get in there, it was gross, floors & carpet i don’t think have been swept or vacuumed in 20 years Walls definitely have never been cleaned! Night stand was in its last leg & top was peeling away, plugged in phone charger and outlet sparked! I felt so gross. Bridge view was nice and access to water was great….but over all… yeah NO never again , even if it’s the last motel to rent I’ll sleep on the roof of my car!! ZERO OUT OF 10 recommended!!

Location is amazing, right on the beach with uncovered parking outside our door. Had to go to sister site to get checked in, but staff was very friendly. Motel could use some updates and softer beds. Views are amazing.

Has to be better places than this for $169 on a Friday night! We went to Northwinds first and it look deserted, and the sign said to check in at another motel. We were given the choice to stay a the original motel where there was no one in sight or at the one where we checked in so we chose the one where there were people. The bed was good. That's about it. She mentioned that the room had been newly painted but the outside needed painted badly- an understatement! The desk person was really nice, pretty view. Room: no closet. dead bugs everywhere including smashed on the wall. Bathroom was not very clean in general and then there were the dead bugs all over the floor and on the walls. Only one light worked in the bathroom, other lightbulb was missing completely and the third was burned out. For the money-I would have expected better.

That place is run down, filthy and should not be open without renovations
