"Comedy of Errors"

When you arrive into the hotel due to delays of airlines, one can become rather testy & irritable. I walked into Doubletree by Hilton on a Saturday evening, somewhat annoyed due to SAA delaying my luggage at the airport. I was expecting certain standards as always shown by Hilton globally but the start at this particular Hilton was extremely disappointing. I arrived with a big bag & a box only to find that there’s no porter at the door! I was sweating and my uber driver was a lady so I can’t ask her to carry my bags. My expectation of a porter wasn’t unreasonable since all Hiltons have this convenience. The security on duty was trying to help me with my bags but I stopped him and told him to get a porter, who finally arrived after making me wait! I rolled up to the Reception and was given my room. There was an extremely friendly young man at the Reception who was exceptionally helpful. O told him that I wanted to see the General Manager but this message wasn’t conveyed or the GM didn’t think it was important to meet his guests, but either way, I didn’t meet him. The room was good without being brilliant but the bed was comfortable and all the facilities were available. Walking into the room gave me a headache since the cleaners had used chlorine for cleaning the room and the entire room reeked of it. Why can’t they open the windows to let the smell escape? The breakfast wasn’t fabulous but basic. I’m not going to complain about it since most hotels have the same type of breakfast. This hotel also serves lamb sausages so a big thank you for that. Staying at the hotel became a tad tedious when their movie channels went offline and they had only 1 movie channel. A complaint got maintence involved but it was never resolved since the problem seems to be the source. Overall, this hotel needs some work and is not a shining example of Hilton Hospitality.
